where i'm at right now, duh...
I'm done with the toy swap, so the GBR diff is up for grabs. The gears were profesionally installed by Driveline and Gear Services of Sparks, NV. It has a brand new ARB RD128 air locker that has never been used. The diff has less than 2000 miles on it. The gears patterned great, and are a little bit noisy, but that could be since I don't have any sound proofing in the back and I use synthetic oil (I'm not a diff expert, or attest to be one). The noise is only noticable with the windows up and radio off at lower speeds, and is only heard on decel. It's been that way from the day I drove it off the gear shop parking lot, and hasn't changed since (ie, gotten worse, or louder) For the first 500 miles I drove the truck nice and easy back and forth to work, so the gears were broken in just like the shop told me to.

The Locker alone is $985, so for $115 more you get the gears, bearings, blah blah blah and it's all ready to bolt up!

$1100 firm (you pay shipping)

located in Reno NV

It's essentially brand new and it's making noise?

yeah, or there's something wrong with my rear axle causeing different shafts and different gear sets to make noise. I had the first two gear set make noise at nuetral throttle, and they progressivly got louder and louder as time went by. This set was installed by a local shop and has been a little noisy on decel since I drove it out of the shop, but it hasn't gotten progressivly louder like the other two did. Granted I haven't driven on it that much.

That's why I'm only charging $100 over the cost of the locker by itself, and the locker is brand new.

Sound like the pinion pre-load is all fucked up. Diff would probably be ok if it was checked out and set-up to spec. Who knows.......someone may be willing to roll the dice.

the gbr gears are generally louder than the stockers. I thought the same thing with my first set, then with my second set i made sure they were setup perfectly and had the same exact result. it's just a characteristic of those gears i think.

but dan's right, if it's on coast it sounds like a pinion bearing related problem.

anybody interested in buying this setup i wouldn't be terribly concerned.

I have GBR 4.11 with no noise either.

That's because you can't hear it over the howl of the turbo!!

I have GBR 4.11s also and lots of noise while driving but I have no idea if it's the gears or not. Between the 33" retreads, the flowmaster 40 and no insulation on the inside it's hard to hear anything.

But I do know that when Chase was setting these up he talked to Bill @ GBR and Bill told him his gears are sometimes noisy.
