It's not what I would have done, it's what the people around here that would do somethng like that would have done.
For the most part, the people in my area are really good people. They don't bother anyone and expect the same from others. But, we do have our "rough crowd". Redneck is not even a comparison form them. These are people who grew up in the mountians, never made it past 8th grade, live in 2-room shacks, and drive late model Chevy's. By nature, these people are grumpy or just plain out mean. If they were to follow someone that far and for that long, pistol or not, someone getting an asskicking or shotgun to the head. And, they will not loose any sleep over it.
There are roads and Hollars here you just don't go through. For locals, it's common knowledge. At times, College students stray into these areas and get guns pulled on them right in the middle of the road. If they don't know you, your getting turned around in a not so nice way.
You can try and call the cops, but they won't do anything. They know better to try and go back to their "playground". These people make their money to feed their families off of Moonshine, Black Bear Gall Blatters, Ginsing roots, and Marajunia. They guard their stash...
Once, the cops did go into one of these Hollars. It was a Hollar named "Beldor Hollar" in Elkton, VA. There is one road in and one road out. There was a guy back there that was wanted for Rape in the town of Elkton. Months later, the SWAT team was dropped off about 2-miles from this guys house, on top of the MTN. The SWAT team hiked down the MTN before day break and raded the home to capture Elvis Shifflett. They got him, and they were able to exit the Hollar quickly. But, the fact of the actual events need to get in and out shows what kind of people we have around here.
I'm not saying they are bad people, because their not! Just don't piss them off or you'll end up in a sink hole or cave somewhere.
