We had two F-18's buzz our little burg awhile back, for a "city" that see's relatively few jet aircraft EVER it is an awesome sight and sound.

I want a ride, really really bad!

We had what appeared to be a C130 buzz the house one night several months back, it could not have been much more than 500ft off the deck. I can hear jets from Seymour Johnson AFB most days but rarely get a look at them.

A few years back (OK, maybe like 15 yrs, but I hate to admit it's been that long) we had an airshow at the Westmoreland Co. PA airport. I was in college at St Vincent across the street when the Thunderbirds showed up 3 days early and started to practice. It was great...they had to cancel classes effective immediately through the end of the air show.

At the time we all thought it was awesome, but I don't think I'd want to live anywhere near a base with a lot of fighters doing low altitude maneuvers all the time...

none of your fucking business
I grew up at MCAS Cherry Point, AV8-B's, Hercs, and C5's constantly overhead. Pardon their noise, it's the sound of Freedom.

Even though it was a daily occurance, I always did and always will look up. *Cue Kenny Loggins*

As a kid we finished sailing the day the Blue Angels started flying for the Academy graduation... sat and talked with an F-14 pilot as we watched them all afternoon. I remember he told me "the hardest thing anyone will ever do is to land a plane at night on a carrier".

"The sound of Freedom" - that's the constant fight in VA Beach around Oceana NAS. 20 years ago it was nothing but farm fields, now it's all upper suburban development and they want to close down the base.

Been flying 53's with the Navy for the last 8 years and civilian well before that - still look up at anything flying overhead! Weird thing is I live next to a paraglider park in UT now... not as much fun as the military guys...

and it still comes up almost every year (the possible closing).
