On my 04 sometimes after start-up the manual and sport mode lights will flash on and off and also the red light by the gear selector will be flashing too, the lights do not stop flashing until i stop and restart the vehicle, ive tried driving with the lights flashing but i notice a difference in acceleration and gearing. I have checked the owners manual but have found nothing about trouble shooting this problem. Any ideas anyone? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Mine does the same once every couple of months. I am sure it is some sort of voltage issue. I just turn it off, restart it, and don't worry about it. Unless it happens frequently, I wouldn't lose any sleep over it.

On my '03 Disco, I was getting the same idiot lights plus the Hill Descent Control light was flashing. The dealer replaced a sensor in one of the wheels (under warranty), and the problem has not recurred.

If you had a HDC light flashing as well, that's a totally different problem.

I had this issue too. One dealer told me transmission sounded fine and the clunk I heard from the transfer-case was normal. I didn't beleive them, so I took it to a different dealer at home.

The entire rear differential implodeed. And thank God it's under warranty.

Mine just started this morning, weird thing is it hasn't moved in a month (just got back from vacation). The battery was dead so I jumped it. First attempt didn't have enought juice, second made it. Before I moved the lights started flashing. Tried to restart it twice now but didn't help. I'm just worried about grinding something up. Any suggestions.

New report, shut it off for about the fourth time but after driving for about 30 min. Started it up and the lights went out. I'm going to check the trans. fluid to verify it's not low...don't know what else to do.

I have on 04 and had the same problem. Turned out it was the auto selector sensor had failed due to air-con drain dripping on it constantly. The dealer replaced the switch and repositioned the drain hose so it didn't drip on sensor. Problem fixed and has never come back.

Re: flashing "m" and "s" lights - HELP!

Just had the M and S lights issue. Seems everyone has a different problem. Battery is a 2 year old Optima sealed cell. No start problems and driven every day. D2 is a 2001 w/ 125K on the clock. Fluids are fine.

? How was the dealer able to diagnose those problems. Sensor here, sensor there. What equipment are they using to find the problem if the symptoms are all the same?

Thanks.

I had this problem over the weekend. The battery always was a tad slow for the first 1/2 second of cranking, and then it would fire up. I went to start it up saturday morning, and it was a little slower at first than normal, but still fired up.... along with the M and S lights! New battery, and the problem is gone.
