Fishing in Outer Banks

I am going to be in the outer banks the week after Labor Day, and was hoping to do some fishing from shore while I am down there. As all my fishing has always been in freshwater, I don't have any gear that is usable for the ocean. I was hoping someone around here might be able to point me in the right direction in terms of gear and tackle. I wanted to pick up two rod/reel combos, and then I wanted to know what suggestions everyone would have for tackle.

I have only fished fresh water before, and I am not looking to live off my catches, I just want to have some fun down there, but I have no experience with this kind of thing. So for gear just tell me things I should be looking for (rod lenths, reel types, capacities, etc.) Also I don't really know what I will be fishing for yet ( I will research all of that later) but if anyone has experience with that area, and wants to tell me what baits to use all input would be appreciated.

Thanks

I went for a 8 ft penn reel with a penn spinner reel. The spinning reel is alot easier to use and less likely to back lash. But you do not have to spend alot of money to get a reliable surf rod, you could pick up a decent rod/reel combo for around 35 to 40 dollars at a tackle shop.
Go to www.fishermanspost.com and take a look at the links that have web sites for charter fishing that will either to inland to off shore and they have prices listed. It may be too late to get a reservation since it is labor day weekend. Most tackle shops will be very helpfull in getting you started. If you have any more qustions e-mail me.
