Exhaust tip exit under the truck?

where i'm at right now, duh...
I'm fixing some exhaust leaks, so I had to remove the entire exhaust. The idiots that built it for me a few years back decided that they wanted to avoid putting flanges in so they ran the entire pipe all the way back. In order to remove it from my truck, i had to cut it in half.

just wondering if anyone has left the exhaust tip under the truck? I'm not too worried about soot build up on the rear axle and what not, but more along the lines of fumes getting in the truck.

A friend of mine with a Ranger doesn't have anything past the y-pipe
He hasn't had any problems with it. that is a truck so it might have some effect on it.

probably so. I think someone on here suggested against it because a family died because they left it idling for heat when they were stuck in a snow drift. Don't do that and you should be fine.

Side of the road....
A friend of mine is running an open exhaust with turn downs just past the cats. He doesn't have any issues with exhaust coming in the truck, but it is a bit louder.

none of your fucking business
I had mine cut just past the rear axle for about a week...went to drive it at the end of the week and the exhaust melted the wiring harness for my fuel pump. So, Id recommend against it...thats just me though.

this dumps about 6" before the rear axle. It dumps right up and in front of the long side of the axle housing. I'm going to bolt it back up and see how it goes. If I have to take it to a shop and add more then so be it!

I live in dyr northern NV desert, so rust isn't a concern.. I've got lots of rock rash under the truck that barely has a surface rust to it.

thanks for the input fellas!

Yup, this happened to me too, on my RRC. Burned through the tailight harness. Plus it was stupid loud too. I put a tailpipe on and was 10xs quieter inside. I wouldnt do it either.

Get one of these and stick it in. You woudl be surpised how much CO gets in the passenger compartment when the tailpipe is under the body.

CO doesnt leave the body very quickly. It does build up and posion you slowly too, not just when you lock yourself in the garage with "Stairway to heaven" on repeat with your tears dripping in the picture of the girl that just dumped you for your sister.

I've got a Borla "Boomer" (although it's nice and quiet - just barely louder than stock and a good tone) muffler with tip that ends before the rear axle, but has a lot of open area around it so that it doesn't melt anything. Exhaust tip points straight back. I haven't had any problems, although it's not the ideal setup to keep fumes farther away. I just don't want the exhaust system in the way while on the trail.

As an aside, I'd recommend the Borla Boomer to anybody that wants to hear a nice V8 tone, but doesn't want the truck to be loud like the kid next door's Silverado. It's relatively inexpensive, too.
