Hi I recently found out I have a blown head gasket. I live in Sacramento where it gets real hot in the Summer months and I figure it is due to over heating. I was interested in putting either a small block Chevy or similar American for the advantage of a steel block and parts avalibility. Has anyone here ever done this or can your refer me to any companys that sell conversion kits so I can link the new enginge to my RRC??

Believe me, it will be easier to rebuild what you've got. Take your heads to Sacramento cyl. heads in Rancho, they do a nice job for not a ton of doh $
Then go up to Specialized British and get your gaskets / radiator

You'll spend less than going the other route unless one of your heads is cracked

However, I have considered putting a Chevy in my RRC due to the same reasons you listed (availability and cost of parts)... plus you get more HP! And I've actually found my V8 powered, fuel injected Chevy's (LT1) to get a little bit better gas mileage. So, if you really want the Chevy and are ready to spend the $ then go with that route ; they're a way better engine. The headers / downpipes on the RRC's 3.9 are very restrictive and plastic timing gears? Blah!
