Door actuator problem?

I know this has been discussed earlier, but I tried to fix it with no results:

The driver's side door only opens when the key is inserted, turned in the open position, and the latch activated. I took apart the door and adjusted the rod to see if that would solve the problem-it did not. The problem appears to be the up/down rod (the part that sticks through the door and moves up/down), it appears to be very loose and I'm not sure how to tighten this. Is there any fix/solution other than the dealer? Could it be the door actuator motor not pulling hard/tight enough??
This is the 3rd door this has happened to: cargo, left rear and driver's side.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance

Thanks Robbie & Jen . . .I will give this a try. Sounds like this is the problem. Do you have to remove the entire mechanism to fit the new spring? Looks complicated-but well worth it. I may start on the cargo door . . do you know if this has easier access than the doors?

Thanks so much for your help! :D

I just replaced those little springs on all of the locks on our Disco...most were broke and the rest were going to break soon.

To answer your qyestion, yes, you should remove the entire latch assm. This also gives you a chance to clean and lube the latch. Starting with the rear cargo door is a good idea....it is the easiest to do. The front doors are a bit harder since you need to pull the window frame up and out of the way to remove the latch.

It can be time consuming to replace all those springs...but its very much worth it. Being able to open your doors can be an important saftey feature ;-)

I thought the springs breaking meant the lock arm would not stay in the upright position, i.e., keep falling down as if the door were locked even if it was not. I thought if the lock stayed in the up or down postion by using the key the actuator was bad.

experience, or is that frustration? ;) about the same with these trucks. on the cargo door, i was able to replace the spring in-situ. didn't want to break it down any further to actually remove the mechanism from the door. the front door though, pulled the mechanism out and was able to do the spring much easier on the garage floor. people might doubt, but it is definitely a 2-3 hour job per spring. but oh so worth it.

that's true. the original post made it sound like it was moving, just wasn't all the way unlocking. but if you are having no movement of the lock, then the actuator is bad. if your lock is popping up, but you have to actually unlock the door with the key still, it is your springs.

Robbie- That is what I thought. I think his actuator is bad...not the spring. If he can lock and unlock the door with a key and the lock arm shows locked and unlocked when this is done then it is the actuator. Mine is out and the lock arm works just fine, but it will not lock with the key fob or the lock switch on the dash. All of the other doors do....just not the driver's door.
