Dog fight in my backyard.

One of the people in the sub has been letting her Chow run loose in the neighborhood. This has been going on for several weeks now, the dog has caused alot of trouble. It's always getting into confrontations with people walking the dogs on leashes, running the streets, etc.

Our dogs stay in the yard, we have an underground fence, but obviously it does nothing to keep strays out.

About 30 minutes ago, the chow wandered into our yard and my Bullmastiff Hera just wrecked it. I heard the fight, but didn't get out of the house for a few moments. When I did get outside the dogs were near the side property line, going at it. I then assume Hera got zapped and this is when the fight stopped, the chow left limping and tripping over itself. Hera is fine, one puncture on the muzzle.

Question...Do I even bother to contact the owner or do what I'm inclined to do and say screw it?

Now that you've posted it on the internet... yeah, you should probably tell the owner what happened. It ain't your fault though. The chow's owner should pay your vet bills.

My dog is fine, she has one puncture on the muzzle. She get worse wounds playing with my other dogs. No need for the vet.

I'm kind of thinking the dog might not make it home, we'll see tomorrow.

I don't think the other dog's owner is a Dweb lurker.

You may contact the owner if only to verify thier dog is up to date on vaccines. If it is out often whose to say they take care of the regular shit. My dog gets out almost daily to chase rabbits, but I only have a handful of neighbors within a mile or two. She got into it with another dog and i am paying the vet bill, and the neighbor has been cool about it. She's the best coyote dog I have.

Maybe now your neighbor will fix his fence.

Call animal control and explain the situation. ask if they can quarentine the other dog until the owner proves it's up to date with it's shots.

It isn't the dog's fault that the owners are trash. No need for it to be punished beyond getting it's ass whipped in a proper test of dogness. It already learned a valuable lesson.

Save the .308 for the owners. They are responsible for their pet's actions.

My sister's husband called me once, after becoming fed up with a neighbor's dog tormenting him in his own yard. It is a beautiful Husky, and intelligent. I told him to drop me a line when the dog came back. You see, they too have dogs, but they are small, horribly bred, improper dogs, and due to human interaction with their breeding, are unable to defend themselves effectively. Again, it isn't their fault that they are useless, it is the fault of people like my sister who must have a cute little dog.

Regardless.... :banghead:

I go over, and there he is, being tormented by this poor dog, who clearly doesn't know any better. He thought this was his territory, and was trying to enforce it. Makes perfect sense to me, but we can't have that, because someone is going to shoot the dog over it.

Her husband went inside, and I stayed outside with the dog. I sat on the ground. He stood there, motionless for a long period of time, just watching me. Eventually, I stood up slowly, and circled him, approaching slowly, until I was right beside him, and he remained motionless. I gathered that my physical language was getting through clearly from his posture, which was that of deciding between fight or flight.

I stepped quickly to him, and he stepped back. I repeated this until he was past the property line.

Some may find what happened next amusing, clever, or just plain stupid.

This dog is just staring at me, with one of those confused dog expressions that they are so good at, but he is still posturing a bit. So, I did something to that property line that I knew his ass would understand perfectly. I marked it.

I kid you not, that bugger will walk right up to that line now, but he won't cross it to save his life.

Beautiful dog. I'll bet he would be very well behaved with a proper owner. I've spoken with the owners, explaining that by letting him run round like that, they are placing him in danger.

I can't pee in everyone's yard, and there have been complaints by other people in the development, so I spoke with them again on several occasions, warning them about their dog's safety. It appears now that they have decided to teach him better ways.

There is no need to turn a dog into a robot with a trainer. He only needs to understand where his limits are, know who the boss is, get plenty of exercise, and be loved.

They call me over anytime anyone there has a problem with an animal. I can't tell you how many snakes I've relocated from that development. At least they aren't being killed anymore, and the people are seeing that with a little patience, one can get on well with these "horrible" creatures.

Spiders, though, can deal with my weapon of mass destruction, which is pictured below. Sucked into oblivion and torn to pieces instantaneously in a whirling personal hell created solely for their displeasure. :D

Cheers,

Kennith
