I'm not saying the sill wont bend before the slider. What I am saying is there is no material which is impervious to bending, there is no perfectly rigid material. I say this because people start throwing out blanket statements such as "any sill mounted slider will bend unless the sill is sleeved"

The OP could have worded this better and said. "in most circumstances the sill is the weak link and is much more likely to deform before a well build rock slider"

The point here is that you reach diminishing returns on building up the stoutness of the slider vs the weakness of the sill.

$1000 rock slider need only be as stout as most on the market. The areas for improvement are a mounting method or system that improves the strength of the still or mitigates the requirement of a strong sill to allow the slider to be effective.

Another area for improvement is style. I have been waiting for someone to make a rock slider that looks exactly like the stock trim piece, except is built to provide all the protection of the most effective rock sliders on the market.

I believe these are the two ingredients that can potentially lead to a $1000 rock slider.
