Might seem a stupid question...

Genuine LR brake rotors for the D1 (FRC7329) have a black protective coating (paint??) on them. Does this coating need to be removed or scuffed off when the rotors are first installed? I have not been able to find any answers to this.

The black does seem to be a paint, so I think it will scuff off all by itself, but perhaps that is incorrect. I am hoping Chris or PT will know for certain...

The last OEM ones I put on were green. I think it's just an anti-rust coating. No one wants to put on rusty rotors, even though they'll get that way soon enough whenever the disco is parked for a couple of days in humid weather. IMHO no need to take if off; the brake pads do a pretty good job of doing that.

At the dealer, some guys would remove it, some would leave it on. The latter had far more comebacks for squeaky brakes.
