a couple weeks ago i went into bass pro shop [i live there] and special ordered this two strap system for 18 bucks. ill have to take pics and post them. clips on and off quickly and holds....6 poles? Anyways, its slick and cheap. Keeps the poles right up by the roof inside your truck out of the way.

where i'm at right now, duh...
Would anyone else be interested in this setup?

I can get a couple sheets of steel and make more if others are interested. These should be pretty cheap on shipping since they are so light. If there's any other improvement/design ideas you can think of, feel free to let me know...

Anyone ever made a holder for surf rods, I'm looking for ideas.

I bought some a few years ago from www.thesurfcaster.com that were like roof top ski racks in that the were attached to your crossbars at the front and back and hinged in the middle like ski rack. There was enough foam to compensate for the thickness of the rod handles. They were great. After getting them I thought to myself that an old ski rack would be easily modified to do the same thing. Once at the coast I'd just put them in the surf rig on the front or back of my truck.

Cheers,

Mike

yea that was my fav part to. i guess i could keep one in my waders so next time i forget my rod i can still fish.
oh nevermind if i forget my rod i should not be allowed on the water.

as for surf rods i pack mine in a thule cargo case, or i would just lash them to the cross bars next to the kayak before the roofrack.
i gave been wanting to make a trailer hitch rod holder that could be taken off and set up on the beach as a freestanding rodholder. or used to carry setup poles when i need to run the beach looking for a school.
