Diesel Programmers

Alright guys, so Im looking more and more into Diesel Programmers with my Dodge and I have the option to get both a Bully Dog Programmer with the Crazy Larry Tune as well as an Edge CS Juice w/ Attitude.

I currently have a PPE programmer with the Hot Extreme setting available although I just run the Tow setting for daily driving (+80 hp/125lb). That is stacked with an Edge EZ box.

I like the PPE fine but, it's the only programmer I've ever had so I'd like to try something that is a bit more shift on the fly and that will also monitor statistics.

I have a trans/boost/EGT pod in the truck currently so keeping an eye on that isn't really the issue.

What I would really like is a tuner that will keep in mind that I want the truck to work after I've installed it. I like the idea of the Edge helping with the driveability of the truck. With the PPE, it goes from very mild to very scary quick if you put your foot into it.

I think maybe what I would also need is a better fuel map but, I'd need to go have it tuned for that and I'd like to wait until after I upgrade my fueling.

Currently, I am running a twin-turbo BD Super B setup which gives more boost than I would use and helps lower the EGTs. I also have a BD Transmission with all billet internals but, still that doesn't change the size of the input shaft. The Flexplate has already been replaced with an HD version. I don't think Im going to have transmission issues but, I'd really like to not test it too much.

I've already dusted a few mustangs/camaros, one corvette, and every other Diesel truck that wants to have a go but, thats not really what Im looking for. What I want is a dependable truck that looks good, goes good, will pull anything, and will last. thats why I bought the cummins anyways, I wanted the fucker to last.

anyways, I know we had a few diesel guys on here so I was wondering if anyone had any input?

Cheers,

Matt

Have you asked this question on the Cummin's bulletin boards? I had a F350 w/ PS 6.0 (which I realize is a POS), and I know that the tuners seriously limited the life of those engines. I dont know what effect they have on Cummins. Anyway, I bet you'll get a good response on the cummins forum (www.cumminsforum.com).

I haven't asked. But, I have searched.

considering the volume of cummins owners, I know the answers I'll get will end up more widespread.

I trust (for whatever reason) you guys more. I don't participate a ton in the cummins community.

The answers for questions like that on the cumminsforum are similar to the questions here about D2 tire size.

Id take all that shit off and leave it stock maybe a cold air intake and open up the exhaust. Im pretty sure they engineer those things to maximize power efficiency and longevity.

X2. They engineer those motors for towing and longevity, it's not a racecar.

Don't put a "high" flow air filter on a Turbo engine. High flow means low filtration, a bit of dust can kill the impeller.

Most of the guys with PS 6.0s like mine said the samething. K&N air intake, 3-4" exhaust, coolant filter, and an ARP head stud set. After that, leave it along otherwise your playing with trouble. But again, thats for the PS 6.0, which arent very tolerant to tuning. I wasnt sure how tolerant the Cummins were.

Damn. That's one hell of a noise. The comments echo my thoughts: It sounds like a jet about to take off.

There is one comment, however, that really caught my eye:

"one day people will remenber why we all die because we didn't had oxygen in the atmosphere"

I think the oxygen loss reached this bugger a bit early...

As written, the comment suggests that because we didn't had oxygen in the atmosphere, one day people will remember why we all die. Really? So... If we did had oxygen in the atmosphere, nobody will remember why we all die?

More importantly, I think, is the idea that after we all die, people will remember why. What people? Who the hell is going to remember? Geez, if we could strut around remembering things after we die, we wouldn't waste so much time avoiding death in the first place.

Hell. I'd be dead many times over.

Cheers,

Kennith

With competitive trucks like that, it's nothing for them to rebuild the top end in a weekend, swap turbo setups, replace transmissions/tcase, etc. Most of the top end competitive pulling trucks are sponsered by diesel shops, raced, and owned by diesel mechanics.

Good job spending 25k on a truck with twin turbos and and built transmission, only to be too much of a pussy to "test it too much". Why don't you fix the electric side steps first. Or get some seat leather that isnt embroidered with some random logo.
