so im in the market for a new washer and dryer. we are liking the LG. does anyone use one and how has it held up for you? the one question i cant seem to get a good answer to is how hard is it to get parts and are they more expensive than maytag or whirlpool.

My wife likes the washer but she is on the third dryer from the factory not sure exactly, I know they were making A lot more noise than they ought to. and they were unable to fix so they replaced. twice. Don't know if this was what you were hoping for...

Don't buy a Whirlpool. The washer is fine, the dryer we have sucks. You think Land Rovers need an extended warranty buy a Whirlpool dryer. This thing is such a POS I extended the extended warranty on it. We've had it repaired like 7 times in less than 5 years. Would have been cheaper for the warranty company to buy me a new one about 4 years ago.:banghead:

I just bought the new Samsung washer and dryer in blue. It has the VRT(vibration reduction technology). I have only had them for a week, but so far, they are awesome, and very quiet....at least that's what my wife tells me. The VRT is good if you have the w/d on the second floor of your house which we do. Very cool looking also.

I think we only buy GE because we've had good luck. The old ones just died after like 10 years of service. The now 1 year old washer is now leaking...

Is anything built well anymore?

my crazy expensive LG dryer just needed work. heating coil fried out of the blue, it's only a couple of years old. they are both very quiet, but now i'm nervous. all the flashing lights, 300 settings, and lcd screen doesn't mean shit if it won't get hot. not to mention, for all the fanciness that it has, what setting do we regularly use it on?.......normal, and press start. hey, but it looks cool.

How can i tell if my washer is Gems or Bosch? :D

I love my Bosch washer and dryer. They do a great job and are extremely efficient. You can't beat the Bosch styling, either.

The washer spins so fast that there's hardly any moisture left in the clothes for the dryer to dry. Makes for very quick and energy efficient dryer usage.

I got both Kenmore Elite washer and dryer with extended warranty from sears for about $1300 from Sears...No issues and they are very quiet after about 4 months....you dont need a $1000 washer or dryer with an LCD screen to get your clothes clean, it looks cool but i dont know many people who have a washer or dryer as a centerpiece in their home there meant to be out of sight

The GEMS will say the engine size on the part of the washer that comes up in the center when you open the hood, the Bosch will not.

Bosch washer and dryer are great. Whirlpool used to be good. Our first Whirlpool washer and dryer lasted 16 years. The next Whirlpool lasted 5 years. Loads of repairs, noisy and waltzed across the floor at random. The dryer continually fluffed up and cost a fortune to run. The Bosch is lightyears ahead.

I went with Maytag 10 years ago. Plug and play. Haven't had to do anything except level the washer again after I moved it to a different spot in the basement. I like Bosch too, but ended up with Maytag. Neither the washer or dryer looks like something from the spaceshuttle, they are white, square and get the job done. I have seen the LG units in Home Depot, they look cool - but have too much of a plastic feel for my taste.

We had a new house built 3 years ago and had a new Bosch dishwasher, Wolf ovens and range, etc. installed. We also looked at and decided we liked the Bosch washer and dryer and that we'd buy that as well.

However, I told my wife we might as well wait until our Whirlpool washer and dryer gave up the ghost since she had purchased those new back in 1987 before we got married. The dryer had been been making a slight rattling noise like a bad bearing for about 5 years at that time.

The Whirlpool washer and dryer continue to work great even now after 20 years. The only repair we've ever done is I've replaced the dogs in the washer agitator twice in those 20 years for just a few bucks.

My wife continues to hope they break down sometime so she can upgrade to Bosch...

I bought an LG supercapacity front loader washer and drier set for $1500 from Home Depot, back in March. It's been great!

I love the front loader. We upgraded from a Kennmore washer and Roper drier; the wash broke twice in 6 years, and was just too small for our family (wife, three kids, three dogs). The new washer/drier allowed me to cut my laudry time in about half - 4 loads vs 7-8.

Why are looking for parts already? That paranoid? Really I think that they shouldn't be that hard to find. Home Depot services the LG, so maybe contact them?

i bought the LG's for the wife this past summer and she loves em. the only bad part is i have no idea how to use them. to many buttons and settings. the washer has the 1200 plus rpm spin cycle. and some times, i swear the house shakes. but it does say that in the set up for older houses that have settled and the floor might not be as solid

Again with the house shaking I am in the desert, we are on a ground level concrete foundation and we are on the third dryer. My advice. "keep it simple get a basic maytag(my last set is still going strong after 10 years at my SHOP!) and then you don't need to feel let down by spending the money and having issues! Do I just feel like this because I bought my '04 disco with the extended 100K warranty? and still have time and miles left? Maybe.... but my advice still stands with the washer/dryer since they don't give me nearly the enjoyment the land rover does!!!
