Cycling to work, roll call

Who bikes to work? How long is the trek?

A ridiculous amount of people here in Oslo bike to work. Almost unheard of in Houston. Doesn't help that you can get killed by a Hummer H2 in Houston while there is a dedicated bike ROAD in Oslo that would put some car roads in Houston to shame.

I have started since the weather has warmed a bit. It's about 30 minutes one way, while the bus is about 20. The bus can get a bit annoying though because it is so packed in the mornings. So I avoid getting annoyed and get a bit of a work out, 2 birds.

I have the option to bike to work. ~15 minutes, two miles. They even have bike lockers available at one of the buildings, but it's a 1/8mi walk from there to my building. I've ridden in the past. Need to get a more cushy bike seat. My ass has no built-in padding.

Wow...I was honestly thinking of starting a thread about this same topic.

I'm making preparations here at work today to make sure the showers in the locker room are functional and I'm looking into a uniform service so I don't have to haul clothes on the ride (my computer etc will be enough).

Looks like it will be about 8+ miles and there is the Ohio River Valley in between me and work. The miles really aren't bad, but the long hill may be a bit of a workout until I get used to it.

I think the ferry to cross the river is about 50 cents (as I remember).

2 birds also. Gas and exercise...OK 3...stress relief. :D

I am going to start riding a bit tonight after work.

I may try to make a practice run this weekend.

I ride whenever weather permits, lately it's been very nice. My ride is about 10 miles, down hill to work, up hill home. It's also 90% bike path which is very fortunate.

According to the google line I just drew mine is exactly 5 miles one way. That is disappointing. I was hoping for more.

When I was living in wilmington I biked to and from work for just about a year 4.5 miles one way, and was averaging about 28 miles a day on my bike. Between bars grocery meals and work about 1/4th of every day was spent on my bike.

It would be suicide here. When I lived in Madison WI I used to bike to work, took about 1/2 hour.
I've gained weight since moving to the atlanta area. :(

I walk to work if that counts. I figure it does more damage to my engine by starting it and driving a mile and a half and shutting it off.

I would ride to work, but it's hard to carry a suitcase and flight bag on the bike. I do however ride everywhere else that I can. Geared road bike for the group rides. Fixie for the errands and coffee shop. Single speed mountain bike for the trails. Recently bought a trailer for my daughter to ride in. She digs it. If I had a job that I could ride to, I would.

X3, I walk also. it's only about 3 blocks to my work(7 min.). Riding to work is great though, definitely a good way to blow off some steam.

Not myself so don't know if this counts, but managed to convince my girlfriend to cycle to work here in LA again. It was quicker than driving with the traffic we have. However that all came to an end when a Lexus SUV ran a stop sign, crashed into the bike, girlfirend under the car with the driver hysterical. A passer by had to climb in the Lexus to get the truck tyre off my girlfiends foot.
Trip to the emergency room in Santa Monica which took all night (they had the usual stabbings, drunks walking through plate glass windows etc). No permenant damage, just a lot of bruising and swelling- it made her feel better to know that the bike to work idea had been mine.
Needless to say she is not quite so keen on the bike to work idea at this time.
The time before when she was knocked off her bike she was bruised and suffered a sprained ankle just before the National Rally in 06. On Steel Bender i actually "forgot" her after negotiating one of the obstacles / taking photos, only to find her being physically carried up the trail by a group of J**pers.

Each and every day since April 1. There is a dedicated commuter facility in Millenium Park in Chicago's Loop. Took me a year and 4 months to finally get a membership. Clean nice showers, lockers, a steamer for your clothes. Chicago Police Department sub station for all PD Bikes in the Central District right across from the member storage. Towel service. Restricted key card access. Bike shop with repair services and discounts for members.

It is oh soooooo goood.

15 miles round trip. 2 miles round trip walk to office. I have lost 4 pounds to date! Windy City is awesome for a continuous nasty head wind. Lakefront rocks for hot 20 something trixies.

Loving it. No more El for me. Even when it was 30's and raining it was still cool.

VIVA Le BIKE!
