you can sign up for a guided group tour throught the jungle. it was amazing. you have an expert ther eto tell you everyhting you are seeing and spot stuff. we saw all kinds of moneys snakes , bugs lizards and insects.

Go do it !!!!

I spent two weeks in Costa Rica a few years ago. I went down there for the whitewater kayaking. We rented a Toyota Hilux and cruised the jungles looking for rivers to run. We based out of Turialba, but did go to Porta Viejo and then drove North to La Fortuna at the base of Arenal Volcano. Wonderful country and super nice people except for the drug dealrs in Limon, bad place. When we drove into a new town in the middle of nowhere we would strike up a conversation with a local and ask about a place to spend the night 9 times out of 10 we slept in a spare bedroom in someones house for about $5 a night. It was fun cruising around kayaking and exploring with no real agenda. I would love to make it back there.

Pura Vida!!

you can go to costa rica four times and see a different environment each time.. its a great place. i spent some time up in the mountains and did some serious zip lines at the tu-ru-bari, one is a mile long over a valley and your strapped by your back, rather then sitting. crazy.. worth checking out. the pacquare river is pretty wild as well, i did a 17 mile class v stretch that was really intense, plus there were some indigeonous villages along the banks.. again, depending on where you are, its worth doing. mal pais is a cool little semi-secluded surfer beach as well..

rob.. thanks for that link, i wasnt aware of that place..

Are all the vehicles Land-Rovers or Santannas? With the exception of the grille badge and a few knobs, these are virtually indistinguishable. Lots of the Spanish-made Santannas were imported, especially into the Panama and the Canal Zone.

Sounds like a great place....

Do you know who he rented through?
I'll be there in May and this is definately a possibility.

Has anyone been to Los Suenos marina and resort? I'll be going there in 2008, and would like to know people's opinions of it. Not just the brochure and travel guides. Thanks.

Looks like a naturerovers.com truck.

yes it was. a little bit of a pain to deal with in terms of faxing credit card authorizations down, but he said rental went down without a hitch.
