condensor fan question

Wow, this is a good thread. I have been wondering why I never hear or see my condenser fan on. I thought it was broken. But I hot wired it and it works fine. My disco must not get hot, not even when it was 109? in stop and go traffic for 30min with the a/c on full. I still dont know if it really works right though. I have no way of testing my engine temp. I just know my gauge stays in the middle. Thanks for doing all the research for me and posting a good thread! :victory:

as stated that condenser needs very high temps or needs the ac to be on in order to run.

if you run a live reading of your coolant you will see the vast range of temps you have on the vehicle. highway around 194, then 199-201 in slower speed traffic. if you have been driving a good bit and have higher ambient temps you might see 201-204 while sitting at a light, etc.

I wonder how SAI affects cooling, if at all.
The two DII radiators appear to only differ whether the vehicle has SAI or not.
The reason I'm mentioning that is it seems that if the cooling system is in good shape that the AC fans should never come on unless you have the AC on. ROW DII's were available without AC and the rest of the cooling system appears to be the same.
I know they are designed to come on certain times without AC, but that seems like a failsafe.

I think the only difference between the radiators is a place for another coolant sensor to basically check up on the thermostat.

I didn’t realize it had sprayed the radiator also. Last year I had to replace the water pump and when I removed the fan shroud I realized half the radiator was completely blocked by dirt that had stuck to the oil. So, it didn’t overheat for 4 years with half the radiator blocked. I cleaned the radiator and we noticed the A/C worked a lot better.
