roverguy, I'm glad you made one, good for you, the truth is anyone can make one, however, for those who don't want to they are available... Ohh and it fits 99-early 01s. but you knew that already.

I have the plans for anyone as well, if anyone needs them.

Hmm, that's funny, I saw a post on LRO from Josh and he said it only costs $7 .....

It did guys....it was $7.....cheaply done with stuff from Home Depot, half assed without any power tools except an electric hand drill, but it has worked great! Yup....I do have to get out and walk around every time....but for $7....it doesnt bother me. Ive got a post going on EE forums right now....yeah, I get hassled for the extreme thriftyness.....ive been looking at DI linkages but have been hesitant with the mixed opinions out there.....and I definatly dont have the money to buy an '04 linkage. I am still looking at options with a DI linkage....somehow making it cable actuated or something  ? There has been a good point brought up about the possibility of getting brush wrapped around the lever and engaging/disengaging it or tearing it off......though its pretty far up behind the right sill......and ive had it for a year with no problems.

here is mine....others have asked me..."what is that lock washer for?"....well, who cares what it's for, I paid $7 for the whole deal and it works. Btw, to use it, simply pull out to engage, push in to disengage:

Matt's product, though clean looking and good, is way overpriced.....you could just go get yourself a DI linkage and engage the CDL from the cabin. Trust me....if my linkage-bar-thing cost me more then $20....forget it, its not worth the pain of walking around and reaching underneath everytime. Anyone can make what I have made for less then $10.....I dont own any metal working power tools...not even an electric dremel. I used various drill bits and an electric drill for the holes, a large bolt cutter for the rest and a hammer for the bending.

Let me throw this out there to you. I thought about this awhile back but never followed up on it but your mention of a cable reminded me. I was thinking of a marine cable, one used for steering an outboard or a throttle cable from a boat engine. I used to work with boats many years ago and there were many sizes of cables with the strength to actuate the CDL. Figuring how to get it into the cabin of the Disco is another thing. Anyway, anyone out there that wants to follow up on that idea feel free to file the serial number off that one and run with it. Just let us Disco web'ers in on the final product.

Cheers

Unfortunatley, I wish that it was just bar stock and nuts and bolts... But it's the fabrication, aluminum, and shipping for these... Hey, it's the most inexpensive way to engage cdl on these.

LOL....less expensive then the $4 worth of materials from any hardware store?

sorry but I call RIP-OFF

I don't know,

5 bucks more got me my D1 linkage. I think you might be able to sell those, but the price is dead wrong. I'm not one to trounce someone's efforts to make a dime, but that is pushing it. There is no "fabrication" involved in making that. Well, you could call it that, but that's pushing the definition of the word a bit.

Cheers,

Wow, good luck finding a used cdl linkage period, especially for around 100 bucks. I have just installed my CDL handle and think it works great, if you think its a big deal to get out of your truck just to engage it, than you probably shouldnt be off road anyways. So far I have noticed great improvements in the sand and through extreme angles in the water and on rocks. I thinks its a great deal from Matt, especially if you dont have all the time in the world to make your own.

Its not the handle thats the problem, its what your charging for it. What did it cost you to make each of them, maybe $15-20 if you paid someone to do it......its a joke that you expect others to pay $95 for that.

I had one that was made with a B&M automatic shifter cable on my DII back in 2001. It worked great and all of the little brackets that came with the cable bolted up pretty well.

The only thing that was fabricated was the part that goes over the CDL nipple. Other than that it was just the parts that came with the shifter cable.

I don't know Steve,

If I had a hand crank, I'd probably use it once in a while at the mall for kicks. Can you imagine the looks you would get? Or the next time someone next to you has a dead battery, tell him you do as well, but no worries friend, we can both simply crank our motors by hand. I'd love to see the expression on an average Joe's face after that. :D

I can think of many funny uses for that thing. It's also cheap insurance in the field. Not the safest thing in the world, though.

Cheers,

Kennith

I can't use it on a cold engine- it won't fire that quick. If it's been run within the past 6 hours or so it'll start off the crank. It blows peoples' minds...
