Catalytic Converter

I have a '98 Disco that keeps throwning a catalytic converter code. Low efficiency or someting. I keep erasing it and moving on. But I am getting tired of erasing it. Is this something I REALLY need to address or can I just ruin the air we breathe and spew exaust into the air? It isn't a cheap fix and I am a poor boy.

If you are talking about bad OBDII codes for the O2 sensors behind the cat:
There is a product called "O2 Simulator" or variations of that theme. It is a device that sends the ECU a signal that the O2 sensors behind the CAT are working properly. I think there are '2' sites that sell these units and 1-unit can handle '2' sensors and for around $25, that is a cheap fix compared to replacing possible faulty O2 sensors.
If you are talking about the CATs clogging-up, then your choices are obvious, replace with new, remove completely or gut'em. Based on where you live and the emmissions standards and of course your view on running without catalysts will obviously drive your conclusions.

If the catalytic converter IS bad, its covered under a federal warantee for 8 yrs or 80,000 miles.

you can run it until your truck will not start if you wish but the best thing to do is take it to a muffler shop have them cut those suckers out and weld in a set of high flow catco cats for about 300.00.
