Hypothetical question...

If I have $1800.00 to spend can I cleanly fit 35's on my Disco, what I have done so far is OME lift, 265 Truxxus's, Detroit in the rear with Rovertracks axles.

What I am thinking is this;
3" RTE springs $295
Castor corrected arms $250
RTE rear links $300
RTE a arm extension $150
GCR steel wheels $480
35 12.50 MTR's $800

So that puts me at $2275 :( I can probably get some cash back for selling stuff that I take off, and can probably find some used 35's for cheaper than new MTR's Any other ideas?

Thats prety big. I have 34's and had to cut and put spacers in the springs and the loss of power isn't worth being able to brag about the big tires. They won't work well with out gears.

Yes you will def have to get new gears, or only go 55m.p.h. and get 5m.p.g. just do what you plan on and go with 33's use the extra money to get a matching spare and some sliders or something.

I can only really see gearing coming into play on the highway, offroad I don't think it would make too much of a difference

mmmmm. I think it did on my truck. The engine has to work a little harder when you are maxing out. Plus its hard on the drive line.

Like I said, I am only guessing at this stuff, the biggest tire I have ever had on a Rover is a 265. But I really liked the 36's I had on my TJ, offroading with the bigger tires is soooo sweet.

G-E-A-R-S!

You will notice it on road...slow starts...scary stops....

Off-road, gonna need more skinny pedal to get goin, and once you get all that massive weight goin, when it grips you are just increasing the wear and chance for breakage.

Ive got 285/75 right now..and they are a handful on stock gears and axles (lookin to switch down, way too much for my truck right now). Discos really are not set up well for larger tires anyway--not like a Jeep is...

You could drop the castor corrected radius arms and he A-arm extension. It isn't ideal, but it will drive just fine without them. Also used 35's are pretty easy to find on Pirate and Ebay, so you can save a few bucks there.

You say you have a Detroit out back, but what are you running in the front? What gearing, stock gears will make the Disco a complete dog with 35's, 4.11's would be my minumum starting point, 4.56's would be ideal. What CVs are you running? Stock CVs and 35's will most likley end badly.

If I were in you position I'd stick with the lift/tires you have now, spend that $1800 on front CVs, new gears and a locker for the front, then take what you have left, invest it, and later go for a 5" lift and 35's.

First, I'd keep your current upgraded suspension and invest in clean cutting rather than all the drivetrain angle correction.

1. Flares/Cutting (Rangie Spares ones or the cheaper rolls that have worked well)
2. Tires (800 as you stated, I'd go with Swamper Q78s in the 15 flavor, cheaper, better offroad)
3. Sell your DT+RT axles and invest the ~800$ + the savings from tires, drivetrain, etc...(~700$ let's say) in a stock Toyota front housing with 4.1s, RT axles, and stock birfs (used?), rear Toy 4.1s, RT axles

If you are planning to go for 2,200$, best invest in the Toyota stuff from now...

Open in the front, but thinking about going to a Tru-Trac. Stock gears for now, hope to go to 4.10's in the future.

As far as breakage goes, I am a lightfoot offroad and have only ever broken 1 axle shaft on any of the rigs I have owned and that was on my Rangie with 255 85's and stock 10 spline front axles and an ARB. I am not too worried about breaking the Disco stuff, but I do carry a spare

You need to move your rear axle back about 2".
Don't know if the rear pumpkin is going to clear the gas tank - if yes, I don't see why not.
For $1800, you'll end up with one seriously weenie 35"-tire'd rig.

the answer is no in regards to cleanly fitting 35s....well i guess you could make it look good but would be worthless secondary to high risk of drivetrain failure...i did not see any mention of HD cvs and shafts or driveshafts etc....adds up quickly

If you want super cheap go with retread tires. Also...suggestions about the toyota stuff for the axle upgrades would be very good to listen to, as far as the money for what you're getting, they seem to be a very good route to go.

I agree, go the toy route and save yourself some money in the end. I've finally decided that's the route I'm going after breaking the RT axle and just recently a GBR which is the one that took my detroit out with 35's, so I could of saved a little bit if I went that way from the start.
