I'm eagerly awaitng the day CA falls off into the Pacific and takes all hands with with. The shit that comes out of that state is nothing sort of amazing.

It would be nice if we could kick them out of the Union.

Business writer Pearlstein of the Washington Post called CA's taxation and public spending a Ponzi scheme and blamed it all on unions and special interests:rofl:

Of course, CA was at the front of the line asking for Fed bailout $:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/03/24/AR2009032403203.htm

Moreover, without the steady growth in tax revenue that came with population growth, the Ponzi scheme that passes for public finance in California was suddenly and painfully revealed. Much of the blame lies with public employee unions and a handful of other special-interest groups that have essentially hijacked political control of state and local governments. Now, despite decades of high taxes and rapid growth, state and local governments find that they not only don't have the revenue to provide even basic services, but are saddled with hundreds of billions of dollars in unfunded pension liabilities and infrastructure needs.

"L.A. is becoming a Third World city," says Rick Caruso, a successful developer who has considered running for mayor.

Jake, come on.
Black cars have their place, okay.

You guys take your time to calculate what does it take to extract the heat absorbed (and passed on to the cabin) by four square meters of Rover's roof (about 4kW total influx on a sunny day, average for the contiguous U.S.).

Sun is the greatest free source of energy we just happen to have in abundance. It is bad enough not to use it, but to spend 1.5x-2x as much specifically to waste it is ugly. It applies to houses as much as for vehicles. I wish there were more incentives in CA to instal solar panels than are in place now.

How are the estimates of a/c usage declining due to a more reflective paint color viable? Sure a black car gets hotter, but so does a white car. here in TX it doesnt matter what color car you have the a/c runs full blast in the summer time for most of a journey. I dont think those cost estimates are valid either. if it was only 148 bucks per car to do this i am sure someone would be jumping all over this as an OE manufacturer to be the first to go "Green" in this respect.

Why do they never list the damage done by the processes to obtain and produce these products and ideas along with the virtual estimated footprint reduction? (might i guess that it will be more than the old way of not doing it???)

Kyle, this is a crock of shit.
On a sunny day, walk to any dealer lot, and put your hand down on the vehicles' hoods.
White is the coolest by far and large, distantly followed by metallic silver. Don't know what's your pain tolerance limits - I can't keep my hand on a hood of a black car that's been long out in sunlight for ten seconds.

Problem is (obviously) we're governed by fucking morons who Mc Donald's wouldn't hire if they were desperate. The reason we're governed by fucking morons is we have damn near a whole state populated by more fucking morons who keep electing the aforementioned fucking morons. I can't do much with my one vote to change it. Now we have more fucking morons who want to put serial numbers on high capacity magazines which are already illegal in CA. I can just see all the gang bangers lining up to get their 30 round AK magazines stamped with a serial number and recorded as to who owns them. Like it's going to solve any crimes either. Just one more way to fuck with the law abiding citizens. Not to mention like I can't run up to Reno and buy all the good shit I want anyway and bring it back, regardless if it's legal in California or not. Rant! One thing me and the Mrs. have been talking about is leaving this state when we retire, providing I can stand living here that long.

Gotta give you that, Dee, Mother Nancy can't be beat... Mrs.Feinstein's been rather a distant runner-up, until she covered up a lot of ground (literally and not) with the latest and greatest wilderness bill.

Come on, Peter.....the whole gist of that powerpoint presentation is "we'll reduce carbon emissions by mandating reflective surfaces which will reduce the likelihood that the AC will be used." That's bullshit logic. In the summer everyone's AC is on. In the winter everyone's AC is off. While there is a short blended period in between, don't tell me that having a "special" paint will make one damn bit of difference in any random driver's AC use.

Edit add: Out here in AZ I've had the following colored cars: dark green paint with beige interior, white with beige interior (D1), jet black with black interior, white with very light beige interior, light silver with black interior, another light silver with black interior (D2), and white with black interior. None of the different color combos have made a damn bit of difference as far as AC use goes.

Bill, not everybody lives in Arizona :)

Not that it makes a single bit of a dent in carbon footprint, but my black 95 RRC definitely sees much more frequent A/C use than my white 95 RRC.

I tried a quick search, but couldn't locate the study, but...

Years ago I read a study done by ASU (IIRC) on the subject of Black vs White cars in the Az sun. In short, the black car did heat faster, but after a certain period of time, the interior air temp was approx the same. Again, IIRC, it had something to do with the volume of air in the interior of 2 identical cars would only achieve a certain "saturation point" as far as temp goes, and that was it.

And to be clear, yes this law would be one more piece of idiocy added onto the ever growing pile they have here in Ca.

That's pretty much my point.....no matter what magic paint you have or magic coating on the windows, the damn car is hot and the AC will be on. Right now in AZ we're still in the nice windows cracked or windows down period, but in a couple weeks we're going to be in "leave the AC on until November" mode.
