I don't know that I would buy an older m/c sight unseen. Especially as you don't know too much about them. I don't mean that as a dig... but if you really knew a lot about R100/7s (I am not sure why you have picked that specific model) you would know what questions to ask over the phone or what pictures to request. As you do not, I think you need to find something you can check out in person.

My $0.02

It comes with saddle bags. Fly there and ride it home. It's a vacation on two wheels.

Shit, I've never even ridden a motorcycle before much less drive it all the way from Texas! Whatever I get needs to be close enough that I can sweet talk my dear friend Chris into picking it up for me. That and a lot of free drinks and dinner offers. :)

Maybe I missed the post, but do you have your motorcycle license?

In CA you can get insurance pretty fast. Some insurance co. (Foremost Ins.) let you count years of dirt bike experience towards total experience to determine rates.

No license yet. I'm signing up for a riders course in the spring and look forward to learning to ride. I've been with Geico for almost 12 years now so hopefully I'll get a good rate on insurance for the bike too.

Jen, check out the Rider's Edge course from Surdyke. They have a fenced off "range" for the on-bike training and a seperate classroom for all off the book / video material. After receiving the MSF card, I took it to DMV and the license was automatic. I highly recommend these folks for the class.

Jen there are several van lines that will ship a bike fairly reasonable. Google it. The R65 would be a perfect bike for your stature IMHO, and it is a nice ride. I had one that i sold this year.

Thanks Jake, shipping isn't too bad, I think Forward Air ended up being the cheapest at just under $400 to ship it. It just stinks cause I can probably get the one locally for less once I add the shipping in. I'll do a 4-5 hour drive to pick it up if I can find one that close. I must be patient, not like the world is in short supply of BMW bikes I reckon.

I've been talking to the owner about that one. I was originally very interested in it until I saw another guy on another forum pretending that it was his bike and asking for help on fixing the flat spot in the rpm's. I managed to put 2 and 2 together and realized he had another guy asking about it so that it wouldn't look like it was the same bike with the same problem while he was trying to sell it.

I was still interested in it but just can't stomach the idea of paying to ship it and VA is just too far to drive to pick it up. I found a decent bike in Chicago that isn't too far of a drive but I chickened out at the last minute.

Now in the last 2 days my hard on for one has kinda wore off...I need to fence my backyard, want to redo my hardwood floors, just spent way too much money on furniture and new glasses, and am starting school in January and won't be working very many hours. So now I've kinda come to reality in $$$$ terms and probably shouldn't blow my wad on a bike that I will get kilt on cause I'm a clutz and can barely ride a bicycle! LOL

I'll still take the class in the spring and then go from there. Unless a great deal comes close by my way then I think my little dream is in remission. :(
