where i'm at right now, duh...
Ok, I've been searching and reading old threads for the past two days and I've got a few questions cause I seem to be reading different info on different threads.

I'm running RTE's 3" lift with their upper and lower rear shock mounts. So the rear should be fine with 12" short bodies valved at 400/100. The front has me a bit confused though... I've read 10" and 12"? Could I run the 12's? I'm going to get a pair of D2 shock towers, but what about the bottom mount? If I have to order the bottom mount from RTE I'll just save the time and fab that up myself... But can I use the 12's with a D2 tower and lower hoop mount?

yep...you'll need to think about bumpstop, but you should be fine

Side of the road....
You should be able to run 12" short bodies just fine, just remember the bump stops like Mongo said. With that being said, I have been told that you will not benefit much from the longer stroke shock due to the front suspension design. I'm not saying that you won't as I'm no suspension expert, but that is what I've been told by some pretty knowledgeable people. But I say fuck it, go for it and let us know how it turns out.

Not ...well no You could get a set of taller towers and cones. Compression is the bitch on the 12s as the body is expedentially longer. I don't think you will get away with the short bodies on the rear either. I had 11" Fox and they ran out to the end of RTE cones with a 3" lift. Depending on what tires/wheels you are running you will probably need bigger bump stops and limiting straps.

Someone else (JB) just asked this same question a few weeks ago and the verdict was to just get the right shocks. (10" short bodies)

I should have added that I do have EE's retainers in the rear....

THe reason I'm wondering is because I want to put a 3 link up front in the future.

I don't jump my truck or anything like that, so the shock bottoming out would only be from flexing it out.

So a 10" short body up front? or fab up some short bottom mounts and run the 12's?

the yes and no's from everyone is confusing me! I'm going to flex out the rear and see what measurements I come up with...

This is a good thread, as I just got my set of 12"s too. What valving in the front are you guys running? In the rear seems like 400/100 is what everyone else is doing?

soo....sorry to sort of hijack your post.. but i have a 2"RTE and a 1" spacer in the rear. the front is fine to me, but i want more travel in the rear over the OMEs....so should i use a 10" or 12" shock? debating between the FOX and 7100s still.

I ran 12in shorts on all 4 corners with RTE 3in springs just fine. Bumps are a must. D2 towers are the way to go, unless you are moving the shocks outside. You will need lower mounts. I went with 400/100 valving all around. Stiff as Ron Jeremy, but I liked the road manners. If you want a 3-link, get one. I've had one for years with zero issues, and love it's abilities.
