Well being an avid hunter and fisherman I thought I would start a thread of showing your best deer/day/catch whatever. I know there are some long stories but lets try and keep it to mostly pictures and brief descriptions.

This was my best deer ever; last year - 30 miles south of San Antonio TX. Not hunting much this year due to 5 yr old not sitting still :D

10 pt., 6 1/2 yr old, 143 B&C. Shot w/ a .22/.250 @ 140 yds. (I know it is a small caliber but after target shooting the day before, I realized my .30/06 was knocked outta wack! Lucky I had the the 2nd rifle with me that trip!)

Kai,

I have never hunted, but have done a lot of fishing around North America. I scanned a couple pics from a 1996 Alaskan Fishing trip which we were going for Halibut. Basically once you reeled one of these pigs in, the captain of the boat would shoot it and then hoist it up. Picture #1 is me trying reel the bitch in and picture #2 is the captain hoisting it aboard. If memory serves me correctly, the weight was 190#.

My dream is to some day go marlin fishing or even to go out past Bermuda for some real action :D

Fly fishing in the keys for tarpon is always something that I have wanted to do.... Was never really a picture type person though... I just catch/kill and prep for eating.. Not big on posing with the dead.

Paul, I have heard about those Halibut! Sounds like fun. We have flounder here (Houston/Galveston) which are similar and good eating but only max out at about 8-9 pounds.

I have had a great time fishing but have hunted a lot more. My latest is flyfishing for redfish in the saltwater flats. Accessing these areas is by kayak due to the shallow water 8"-2'.

Funning thing is my hunting and fishing have progressed. I have leaned towards flyfishing because it focuses more on the stalk/hunt. I am no longer a bait and wait person. Same with hunting. I shot my first deer with a bow the previous year and have vowed to focus on that next season. I think I have risen to a different level where as it is more about skill and the hunt than baiting/waiting and being lucky. I guess teaching is next! I am starting to feel like Mr. Miagi... :D

Best part of the halibut are the cheeks.. Nothing like halibut cheeks wellington.. yummmy... Halibut is a great fish to eat.. Plus, you can use it in just about anything and it holds up well ( doesn't fall apart ) while cooking it..

I had the greatest time salmon fishing in Alaska even though I didn't catch anything... It was still a great time.. Plus, watching my wife catching a 25 pound king salmon that was almost as big as her was great.

Paul, where were you in AK and where did you go while up there?

Eric,

I chartered a private boat for a week out of Wrangle. It was one of those trips you hav eto reserve a year in advance. Back then I think each person paid around $2500. They allowed 4 people to go and the Captain's wife was the chef. It was not a lounge type cruise. We were laying crab pots , trolling for salmon, and avoiding any collision with humpback whales. I did not see any bear though :(

Next time I go to Alaska it will be to hunt bear....with my camera.....

Let me know a few months in advance before you go or when you are deciding where/what you want to do up there..... We went flight seeing for brown bear ( little bush plane, land, have lunch, see bears ) and all other sorts of things while we were up there.. I can get you some recomendations for local tour things and the like depending on what part of Alaska you go to.. Also, you got to have some Alaskan Pale Ale or any of the other fine products from the Alaskan brewery.. Good stuff.

edit - Get a good camera with a reallllllyyyyyy good zoom lense.. The farther the zoom the better... 300-400 just doesn't cut it up there.. I truely love that place and I'm still trying to convince my wife that we need to move.. I really didn't want to leave.

The deer pictured with my son was taken during archery season last year and grossed 158 and weighed in at 215 lb. The other is a muzzleloader kill from 3 years ago.

Best Day... Any Day Hunting!!

This is the result of one of the better ones. Two bucks taken in the same day. Six point taken in WV about 8:00 am, 9 point taken in VA at 3:15 pm. I think the best part was my son being with me for both hunts bringing me good luck and sharing the experience.

All my pictures of speckled trout and redfish look puny compared to some of these...

I'd like to see some more pictures. I wish a could find the one from last year when a buddy of mine got a good sized doe. I had to drive my Disco up a hill a ways to retrieve it and they took a good picture of the deer on my truck. One of my favorite pictures, but I didn't get a copy of it.
