That isn't taking away that right but it also isn't the same as being a proponent of the 2nd either. The Pres wanted to get the credit card holder's bill of rights through and as we all know, you sign the bill or you don't, the President doesn't get to take it apart as he wishes. The right to carry in the parks was an amendment inside that bill.apg said:So, when Obama signs a law that allows concealed carry (with appropriate state permits) in National Parks, how is that taking away our 2nd Amendment rights?

The Washington Post said:This week both the House and Senate approved Sen. Tom Coburn's amendment to the credit card bill. The Oklahoma Republican and a bipartisan coalition of lawmakers has tried for years to get the measure approved, arguing that differences in state and federal firearms restrictions made it difficult for gun owners to travel between state and federal lands. Interior instituted new regulations in the waning weeks of the Bush administration, only to have them rejected by a federal judge in March. The Obama administration refused to appeal the decision and the president signed today's bill with no comment on the gun provisions. Approval of Coburn's bill is yet another of several recent setbacks for gun control advocates.

apg said:This is another thread that amuses me - and a recurring one - that Obama is gonna take away your guns. Even more ridiculous is the notion that the UN is somehow going to do the same, neatly merging the decades-old, John Birch society screed "get us out of the UN" with the right's perennial gun control paranoia. Other than being completely and utterly fabricated BS from the far-right, there is absolutely no evidence of that Obama has any desires on your guns: despite what the right says, he believes that the Second Amendment creates an individual right to keep and bear arms. But let's examine the NRA's 10 supposed reasons why it considered Obama to be anti-gun...and, no, I'm not making this up. (And no, I couldn't cut'n'paste, as the original has been pulled down.) The NRA said Obama would:
1) Ban the use of firearms for self defense.
2) Pass federal laws eliminating the right to carry.
3) Ban all handguns.
4) Close down 90% of gun shops.
5) Ban rifle ammo used for hunting and sport shooting.
6) Increase taxes on guns and ammo by 500%.
7) Restore voting rights for persons convicted of gun felonies.
8) Expand the Clinton-era ban on semi-auto weapons/magazines.
9) Mandate a federal firearms permit.
10) Appoint Supreme Court justices favorable to his views on the Second Amendment.
Riiiight....I'm not making this shit up...this is what the NRA published prior to the election...and none of it is anything but utter bullshit. Is any of it true? Of course not - it's simply laughable . But as Sarah Palin admonished the media when quitting her job as governor, "Y'all gotta stop makin' stuff up."
At the gun show last weekend, the promoters were advertising the event with the tag line "get your guns and ammo while you still can" which - predictably - brought out the sheeple in masses. It's not "creeping socialism" that will be the downfall of this country, but rather the ?stupidification' of the nation. There's lots of evidence of that[./I]
As Ben likes to say "follow the money." Who benefits from all this "Obama's-gonna-take-your-guns" hype? The price of most firearms has risen dramatically in the last few years, but ammo has increased exponentially. (I've been reloading 5.56mm since ?79 or so and have a couple of thousand rounds in all the many calibers I own; I quit when the price for reloaded 5.56 fell to about $.14 per round, less than my ?cost' a few years back.) So, if you are ?stocking up' now on over-priced ammo, just consider it a ?sheeple tax' on gullibility.
