I'm going to do my first Seafoam treatment tomorrow and before I go stickin it in all the holes I can find....;) Where should I start and what do you guys recommend? Little background.... 96 D1 5-Speed, Valve job about 2yrs ago and 17000 ago. No problems since then, but I want to do some prevention. Thanks.

Passenger side vacuum hose going from plenum to valve cover. I'm sure someone will post a photo. I just did my 96 D1 with 172k and running beautifully, never had a valve job (knock on wood). Seafoam is great!

Be ready for _lots_ of smoke. Great big clouds of it for several minutes. If you have picky neighbors you might want to go do this somewhere remote. Or if your neighbors are OK like mine they'll just come over all concerned that your truck or house is on fire, then will proceed to question your automotive skills until the smoke clears :smilelol:

One can in the fuel tank, one in the crank case, and about a half a can in the vacuum hose. The truck should, obviously, be running while the 1/2 can is going into the vacuum hose. Turned the truck off, and let it rest for about 15 mintues or so. Then started, and drove immediately to the nearest on-ramp for the express way... smoked more than the inside of Spicolli's Vdub bus during lunch hour! Wow. Good results though.

Question - how often is this proceedure recommended? Once a year?

I don't know about the 'deep creep', as I believe most folks are using thier standard motor treatment stuff. http://www.seafoamsales.com/motorTuneUp.htm

When I speak of a can, I mean the small one, not that huge one in the pic. If nobody posts a shot before I leave the office, I'll gladly post one later on. It's a pretty simple procedure. It's a 1 wrench on a 5 wrench scale. You'll need a pretty small funnel or the like for pouring into the vacuume line. The line itself has an ID (inside diameter) of less than a centimeter. FYI. Also, pour rather slowly. The engine will tell you if you're pooring too quickly.

This thread may also be helpfull, as is was for me:

Mudquest, do you leave Seafoam in the crank all the time or just before oil changes?

I have been using B12 by Berryman (in the crank) for years in multiple cars with amazing results. However, you put it in the crank, run the engine for 10-20 minutes then change oil.

Anybody know the difference between B12 and Seafoam?

Since it's a vacuum source, I'd pour a small amount in a clear cup and let the engine suck it out. May need pliers or something to control the flow.

I'm not certain as to the suggested frequency of such proceedure, but I plan to perform this about once a year, in the spring. Post oil change non-discript timing really, one can in the crank case, one in the tank, and a .5 can through the vacuum sucker. Anything in the crank would burn off pretty quickly I suppose.

Anyone with alternate suggestions out there?

Ok TNROVERS, just in case you weren't able to view the link the earlier email, the image you requested is as attached. :victory:

tn...that pic is for a d2! on your 96 it will be on the drivers side. its the hose going from the plenum to the valve cover. i pull the hose out from the plenum and use a small funnel but i have seen ppl pull it from the valve cover and just pour it in the hose. deep creep is the same as reg seafoam just in spray form....rendering the funnel unnecessary!

ps if you want to get the exhaust valves....run a liter of water through it as well!

i have a couple of questions.

I have heard 1/2 to 1/3. Does it really matter ?

Pour until it stalls or just pour the recommended amount ?
