Save the last round for yourself. It'll be a blessed relief as the bear is wearing your guts as a hat.
Where's Andrew Homan? I'd like to read his thoughts on this matter.
I've said it before. Handguns are a faster draw.
Most people have neither the cause nor the inclination to wander about the wilderness with a noteworthy rifle in any manner of ready posture, and in such an attack, that can be a terminal condition.
Plenty of handguns are available chambered for cartridges that are very powerful. They are often chosen in situations where the nature of a dangerous journey renders high levels of readiness overly inconvenient.
You won't often catch me with a rifle on my chest unless I'm expecting, planning, or guarding.
