I feel like I saw this on BBC one time, I don't think it was during an episode of TG. Think it was a special of sorts, can't remember for sure.

Mike, that is incredible!! It must be pretty awesome to fly at an altitude where the only humans ABOVE you are on the Int'l Space Station!!

I met Major Merryl (David) Tengesdal at the Smithsonian Air & Space Museum last winter.
She was telling us about looking down and seeing a meteor shower.

She pretty much kicks ass.

Yea, the U-2 are very sick airplanes, economical as well compared to the SR-71. The Air force decommissioned them years ago but they've brought some back. I believe NASA operates a few as well.

Awesome images throughout, the landing caught my attention, the wings flexing, and the landing gear, is it really that narrow? does it turn on land without tipping over?...
I just watched it again, and it starts with "training wheels", but looses them, how does it stop?

To add to that, why are the "cop" cars following it before take off and after landing?

Guiding it down the runway/taxiway. Pilot can't see the runway and can't turn sharp without his training wheels.

How much maintenance / repair is needed on those things before each flight... By the look of those landings several thousand

I would imagine former AGS or CRS guys would think about 30-30's and laugh...:)
