Yeah, you can't alter it, but it has full maps for road ways.. which makes it amazing for the average consumer.. but for offroading, its not so great [at least from what I understand, I haven't looked at one first hand]

Oh it is consumer.. You can't put in Lat/Long.. You can however save way points I was in a state park last night and I saved waypoints off road and they are now stored in the address book.

I guess the AVIC would Nav me to the park on roads and then I would use the compass and as the crow flies indicator on the AVIC (a red line connecting where you are diectly to the destination)

I spoke to Pioneer Tech Support last night and they told me they don't use NavTech anymore, they bought a mapping company so they can get more frequent updates (1.2 is on its way). He told me if I find something wrong with a Map or if feature would be useful just email them. I was going to request coordinate locating via Lat/Long how hard could that be to add !

The maps look pretty good. Not that we have a lot of Topo features on Long Island but I does delinate large forest areas. have to take her to the beach to see what it looks like but weather has been crappy when I have been free and wehave had some errosion.

Let me know if you want me to check any feature out you are interested in. I am waiting for a Dynamics display to finish learning to check out the Slope meter :D

Firemanddc, nice install also Where did you get the trim pieces and the wood ?

No, I really like the Trim.. spent the $500 the dealer wanted for it on the AVIC.

the piece of trim you have under the stereo to eat up the 1/2 DIN, is that flush with the rest of the dash ? Mine is inset a few inches.

Love your Rig.. I have only attempted sand so far ;)

Beautiful Vista !

Same hardware platform.. Newer software. Will have the ability to take XM Traffic data and overlay and route on that information.

AVIC-N1 can be upgraded with the software and you can add the XM receiver to the N1.

At least that is what I have been told... Introducing at SEMA and CES

That's what I was hoping. Good to hear. Although if it just adds XM Nav, I probably won't upgrade. I don't have XM radio and do not live in one of the 20 cities that XM Nav works in.
