Ok, I am looking at a few lights...
Hella FF1000 Driving
Hella FF300 Fog
Hella 500 Fog

They will be used to supplement my lights on county, country and off road nocturnal adventures. My 03 has awsome illumination when in High Beem mode but the Lows are lacking even with the Sylvania Silver Stars which did make a big difference.

So I guess my question is what are your experience with these lights and the patterns in real driving conditions, is the fog good enough to see stuff at 55mph and does the Driving Beam light an acceptable area for slow offroading.

I do most of my driving at night On-Road and Off-Road diring the day. I just wan't the best illumination to dodge animals and see the road.

Thanks

I have the FF1000's on my 99. They are mounted on a brush bar. I use them for off-roading and on the highway late at night when there aren't any cars in my view. They are extremely bright and do an excellent job of illuminating the trails. The FF1000's seem to be about 5 times brighter than the highbeams.

I don't own any, but the Hella 500's are also not a bad light for the trails, if positioned correctly.

Unfortunately, I had to remove some water from the main bulb housing after some stream crossings in GWNF. But thats because I'm sure they were submerged totally. I will tell you that they've never leaked in heavy rain while driving.

Check my photo gallery under Kristopher March for some not so good photos of them.

Where are you going to mount them?

I am running the FF1000 black magiks on the front. They are wired into my high beams and illuminate only in high beam mode. I am using Hella 500s for rear illumination. I am delighted with the perfomance of both. The 500's are on my rack rear side, so they sit 7'+ in the air and still light my way with no problem. The 1000 black magiks are intense for a $180 pair of lights. IMHO 500s are too small to make any difference in the front, especially if you are using silverstars for your driving lights.

Not so fast...
I have the 500's (maybe 550's) on the front and am impressed in the amount of light they give off. It is good supplemental light to help the low beams, but not enough to blind oncomming traffic or get myself a ticket. They are a very wide and narrow pattern- good for lighting up corners or deer on the side of the road at night.
Make sure you get the fog pattern, though.
