Yup, it's a Stage 1. This was the "in-between" model that was the evolutionary link between the Series III and the 110, which later became the Defender. The ad is not quite correct, as the Defender name wasn't introduced until 1984. The Stage 1 featured coil springs and a V8 as the major design changes from the Series III.
For $6,000 I don't consider this a good value. Any time I read the phrases "needs work" and "great investment" the Skeptical Alarm goes off.
PT Schram had one of these on his driveway at some point, he can probably give more details about the model.
That was my next question. Is $6,000 a good price? How much would it be worth mint? I am very mechanically oriented, and can even do upholstry and body work if required. If its worht $10,000 in great shape it may be worth the time...
That is a Java green, three door, Stage One Series III, RHD.
It had better be complete, intact and unmolested for that price. Detract $ for RHD, Three doors, and needs work with rust.
I have a complete, original and unmolested example with about 60K miles, $9500 as it sits right now. More if I tear it apart and put it back together. Bulkhead and frame are in exceptional condition. Even has the interior intact, with headliner.
WOW. Id love to see that. It kinda looks like a deffender with out the astronomical price tag. plus it has the added cool factor of a right hand drive. If i didnt have to get a divorce over garage space, i would try to offer $4,500 or $5,000. Oh well...some one will buy this and turn it into an awesome cool looking machine!
Fireman Short in NOVA has one, they are rare so some of the parts have been a pain to acquire. You have to really want one for it to be worth it from what Short says.
both. It was @ a service station here in Annapolis a while back and I stopped and looked it over. doors, frame, bulkhead, springs all crusty. For someone with a mig and sanblaster intent on disassembly it would be a worthy project. Color is hard to miss.
Well thats just a shame. I dont doudbt my abillities to fix it. I really cant spare the cash and arguments right now. Were the engines pretty reliable?
