I tried a corvette forum but thought I'd give you guys a shot too. I think the ignition switch is fried on my dad's 62 vette and took out the coil and battery. Does anybody have any idea how to get the damn switch out?

IIRC there's a small hole in the back that you have to push a pin into to release it. Can't remember if the key has to be in or not.

well, there are two small holes in the front. it feels like there's a spring in one of the holes. Muskyman and I tried a bunch of different combinations (key in, key out, twishing, pulling, etc) the other night and were not successful. I know it's going to be something so easy. :banghead: I'll check the back though. Thanks.

Are you trying to remove the lock/switch from the dash or just the lock from the switch?

If I remember right, on the 62 the switch is on the dash and not in the steering colum. If that's the case, there is a small pin hole on the front. Stick a small allen wrench in there and the chrome bezel should pull off.

Did you get it? Take a paper clip bend it so it goes in both holes, push turn key and pull unit out.

If it's like my old GMC truck, put key in ACC position, push pin in hole, turn key left past ACC and lock cyl will pop out. Unscrew bezel ring from switch to remove switch from dash.

Just in case anybody wanted to know here's the procedure.... Put key in off position, put a paperclip in the left hole and turn key counter clockwise. I knew it was going to be easy. Now the hard part is finding a new ignition switch and a stock looking coil with no "Accel" writing on it. This car has 32000 original miles. I don't even want to change the fuel filter because it's original.
