The 5.9b refers to the difficulty rating scale of a climb. See below

USA (YDS)
The Yosemite Decimal System is the North, Central, and South American rating system. The first number in the YDS designates the class of the climb (always "5" for free climbs), the second number defines the difficulty. Although the YDS is the most popular rating system in North America, other systems exist. Some may have the older NCCS scale (see below), others may have an old YDS that stops at "5.10" no matter how hard that climb is.

NCSS F7 F8 F9 F10 F11 F12 F13 F14 F15 F16
YDS 5.7 5.8 5.9 5.10b 5.10d 5.11b 5.11d 5.12b 5.12d 5.13a

I don't get it?

It's the difficulty rating.

I don't care for indoor climbing, and it's been a few years since I've done any outside. We have a nice are to climb along the Delaware River in Ralph Stover State Park. Now I'm feeling the urge to get out again, and it's not such a good time for rocks.....so maybe I'll go do some Ice climbing at Glenanoka Falls near Jim Thorpe Pa.

This rating pertains to both indoor and oudoor climbing. If you get a book that guides you for each climbing area it usually rates each route letting you know whether it is a 5.6 or 5.12, or whatever the difficulty is.

LOL...I know that, I was answering his question about what the 5.6b meant. When I was typing the post the full answer wasn't there and I was trying to jog Gregs mind as to what it might be.....but thanks anyway.

I was beginning to wonder ..... I was thinking to myself "well this guys seemed to know how to rig up a pretty good anchor and be pretty knowledgable about climbing....how in the hell does he not know that?" I guess this was one of those time I should have kept my mouth shut and waited for your response...I am so sorry...haha.... I hope that I did not insult your intelligence....that was certainly not my intensions. I am sure you could teach me a thing or two. :D Sorry about that!

I have seen/bought a lot of my things on ebay. There are lots of companies that sell things on there unused, for a decent price.

BTW...I have a 30' wall at my house made with natural rock. I kind of slipped it into the plans when I was building the house last year.

You got all the FAs on that slab Greg?

I builder about V6.

When I was at Middlebury every building had at least 3 good problems. We only top-roped more than three stories, the rest were just buildering highballs.
