My 2000 DII has a 2" RTE lift running 265/75/R16 BFG AT's still on stock gears. I recently bought a Starcraft 34RT tent trailer. It weighs in at about 4k loaded and the drive back from Boise picking it up was painfully slow. Like 70 mph max down hill and 45 up any kind of grade. I dont think I'd even try pulling this thing up big cottonwood at this point.

So this has got me thinking that a regear might be necessary. The truck was ok by itself on stock gears but now I need as much power as I can get. Would it be worth doing, or should I just save the money for an older 1/2 ton pick up to tow with. So is anyone in UT running 3.9 or 4.11's? Where did you get em, GBR? What shop did you get it done at?

Mostly I'm just wondering if it would be enough of a power increase to pull this thing decently or just save the $ for a different tow vehicle.

Hey Rob, you may want to consider changing the hi gear in the t-case to 1.442 gear set...

As much as Rover Dog would love to sell you a set of gears, when your not pulling that trailer your truck will be reving live a vetec on prom night.
Now if you change the tires to a 33 or bigger it is a no brainer to get the gears.

If you want to tow a 4000 LB trailer in the mountains you better get a truck. I don't care what you do to a Disco it will always suck with that trailer attached.

265's and 4.11's really isn't that bad but Alex is right. Nothing will help a disco pull a 4000lb trailer up big cottonwood. 4.6 and 4.11's maybe. the other problem is the 100" wheelbase. any weight on the back and you're really fighting it.
