Any cheap or steel wheels for the LR3?

We recently added a 2005 LR3 to the household. We live in snow country and I have previously fitted Nokian Hawks on NATO steel wheels for the winter and left the summer tires on the factory alloys on our Disco I and Rangie Classic. This makes for an easy DIY changeover and allows you to thrash through the winter crud and salt and not worry about your alloy wheels.

I don't find any cheap(er) LR3 wheels -- they are all factory alloys or (worse) after market wheels apparently designed for Snoop Dog's tastes and budget.

Do I have any choices at a reasonable price point?

Nope. Cheapest I found were 17" wheels out of Austrailia, called BB6 rims. They really nice actually, but I have the larger brake discs and need 18" rims or larger.

You can get factory origional alloy's for around $200 a peice, but I know that's know that's not what you are looking for. Suck's eh?

Try a wheel shop, the kind that specializes in bling-bling 22" rimz. They usually have a place they deal with that sells all the wheels that get taken off of cars and replaced with ugly chrome behemoths. May be able to score a set of factory rims really cheap. I know a guy with an H2 that got a set of 5 factory rims for $40 apeice that way. Not garunteed, but worth a shot.

Apparently, D2 rims are compatible with the D3:

'the center hole had to be opened up slightly'

what did that entail? There are a lot of DII rims out there, so this interests me, but I don't want to do anything too difficult or too radical. I'm trying to save time in my life and not make extra work. I also don't want to do anything to upset the handling -- its my wife's daily driver.

I have an '07 LR3 in for a winch install this morning.
The owner asked about wheel and tyre options. I have a 16" steel for a DII and it won't clear the brake caliper in the front. (Didn't try the rear) I couldn't get the wheel on far enough to check the bolt pattern, but the hub is smaller than the opening in the DII steel wheel.
I don't have any 18" alloys here to ck today.
When I do, I'll post a follow up...

I have fitted these to my 06' HSE. They are not difficult to do. I had to take a set of rims to a machine shop so he to mill them out. It costed me about $200 for the work and the mounting of the tires. So, then the price of a set of DII rims and tires would be on top of that. If you do not want to take the effort to find the rims, tires, wheel shop for modifications. I can do the research to give you a price. I will take care of sending these off to the shop I have here in Denver to make them work on the LR3.

I am also working on an on-board air system in the LR3. If anyone is interested about it, let me know.

Also,

the handling is only affected if you want larger tires. If you put on the stock 18" size tires, she will not notice a thing. I have the larger tires on mine. I do not notice anything until I am driving mountain roads at highway speeds. Then I notice a little more body roll.

Cheers!

Dave, I've seen your Viar 400 based on board air system and it's sweet! What else are you doing to it? I'm very curious now because I was so inspired by what you had done, I did it myself:

BTW, Nice install. I went for the 100% duty cycle. And the pump comes with the remote air intake with filter so i would not have to worry about the dust getting into the cylider. But cool stuff Nate!

Its been a while since I originally posted this -- and I still haven't found a cheaper winter set of rims. Is any one aware of any cheaper choices for wheels to mount snow tires on for a '05 LR3?

Ive got 18 inch wheels from my RRS. They are not very common in the US-- was told that these were a European issue so you wont really find much of them over here. Dealer says I had one of the 1st RRS in CA .(who knows how true that is):(

Was looking to get $800 for all 4 with the lugs nuts included but will entertain any reasonable offers or trades.

PM me your email address as I cant seem to post the pics or email me at mgm_121 @ yahoo.com

Check for wheels from a Honda Ridgeline, same bolt pattern 5x120 with a backspacing that is with 1/2" of the freaky 6" on the LR3. You may need a Hub Centric Spacer for your wheels, the inside diameter should be 73mm.

Actually, 18" lr3/rrs rims are all over the place, very common. You can buy them new from the dealer for $250 ea so $200 ea for used is not a reasonable price. or, $224 from an aftermarket supplier like: http://www.finishlinewheels.com/LAND+ROVER/LR3/2007/A-72190U20/

I meant that the design of the wheels was not very common. Its from a RRsport not an LR3. But I do understand the market price and will take reasonable offers if there are any...

the 18 hurricane's I am selling will fit an LR3...they were taken off the truck at 30k and have been sitting
well, they will fit after a bit of machining. The center hub needs to be opened up a bit, but after that they will fit.
