You can try to get a grip with vice grips (I forget what you call them in the UK), but you might really want to consider taking it to a shop and have them deal with it before it gets worse.

Sometimes the sign of a good mechanic is to know when to see a higher authority, before it gets worse.

I this the single serpentine set up your working on? If so, are you trying to get the pulley off? Do not mistake hex bolts for socket head bolts. If they are hex bolts and they are rounded off try a pair of ChannelLock Modle 410 stud pliers. If this proves unsuccessful I would use an air hammer with a flat blade chisle. I prefer the Snap On model PH3050 with a 7" chisel model, PGH55A. Try to get a bit on an edge an rotate the bolt out counter clockwise, you have to be gentle on the trigger, until it's loose enough to spin out with your fingers.

Also, try an "easy-out"

Here's what one looks like

They are reverse threaded. What you do is drill a hole in the bolt head, right in the center, then you reverse thread an easy-out into the hole you just drilled and just keep turning anti-clockwise. As you turn it, it will thread itself further into the bolt head and continue to get tighter until the bolt begins to loosen. I have used these successfully on many bolts, and don't know what I would do without them.

PS the ones on the bottom of the picture are what I am referring to, the top ones are a different kind, but can also work in certian circumstances.
