Moving this from another post. The facts: 99 DII with 140k miles. My oil light has come on a few times while driving on the highway. I pull over, turn off the engine and wait a few minutes. Restart, light still on. Shut engine off & wait. Repeat 2-3 times, and light will stay off. Drive a while & repeat the above. Then the problem will disappear for a few weeks. This has happened twice on the highway & once while off roading.
Other facts. Im using 15w-40 oil and yes its full. I have never had the oil light flicker or come on while at idle. Also, my drive way has a pretty good incline. If I park the vehicle nose up, the oil light will stay on when I start the vehicle first thing in the morning. It goes off when I let the vehicle roll out onto the street. If I park the vehicle nose down, oil light goes out instantly during start up.
I had the oil pan dropped. They said there was no sludge and that the screen was clean. They cleaned everything and replaced the pick up tube O ring.
I have searched but not finding anything with my specific issues. Any ideas on the cause? Change out the main bearings? The oil pump itself?

Why would you change out main bearings to trouble shoot an oil pressure problem? They would be a symptom, not a cause.

I have considered changing the sensor, but figured I should find out what the actual psi is with an aftermarket gauge. Whats the best place on a DII to tie into to get oil pressure reading? I saw several posts about measuring a DI, but missed anything about a DII.

switch to 5/40 rotella t synthetic next change and see what happens. (I think pep boys is the only one that carries it around here that i have seen)

what oil filter are you using?

check the sensor too. mine blew off spewing oil everywhere. something about 99's sensor was different as I recall. I don't know what one I have now but it doesn't leak or flicker.
