Seems that Permatex no longer produce Hylomar for the US market :(

It's gone from my local stores, and I can't find it on their website any more.

Anyone any good (available) alternatives for the fill and drain plugs on the trans, diffs etc?

Many thanks,

Chris.

permatex never made Hylomar, Hylomar licensed permatex to sell thier product here in the US.

the contract has now run out and Hylomar has now come direct to the US and they are based in Glenview IL.

they will be out and on the shelves everywhere before you know it.

great stuff

Sanel got the last batch available and I think that a lot of them have enough to hold them over until it's available again. I'm in NH and recently purchased some in Dover.

Not sure that anything works as well as hylomar. If you don't have access to a Sanel, there are many places online that sell it, try Valco.

Well I think it is for gaskets.

But what is so great about it. I think that the stuff I use is "The Right Stuff". Easy applicator and have not had a problem -- yet.

What is this stuff for?

Schlitz-
It's a non setting sealant used for many metal to metal applications. Intake and plenum for example, it also resists most solvents and is often used to hold gaskets in place for assembly. Very different from Right Stuff.

An additional beauty to Hylomar is that it isn't a royal PITA to remove the stuff when reworking the same part later on. That monkey-snot sealer-from-hell the factory applied to the water pump and fuel filter fittings is a case in point.

I use Yamabond 4 as an alternative to Hylomar. The Yamabond stuff is near identical to Hylomar and is easy to find at your local Yamaha motorcycle dealer.

And to answer the question on Right Stuff, this stuff is "semi drying" which in some cases is preferred over a permanent drying silicone sealer. If the manufacturer recommends Hylomar then they are recommending something that does not dry like silicone does.

Thanks for the heads up everyone.

Looked at mail-order, but they wanted to charge more for mailing than for the product itself!!

Ended up hitting my local NAPA, and getting to speak to the manager.

He had no Permatex Hylomar on sale on the racks, and it was deleted from his system, so he couldn't order any more.

He did however find two tubes in the back - so I'm good to go for a while :)

Nearly went to a motorcycle place on the way to NAPA, figured they'd have something similar, but I'm always concerned that I don't have a clue if it's up to the task or not.

What a saga!

Chris.
