I was planning on replacing my power steering pump last weekend but was thwarted because I discovered that my set of allen wrenches did not contain the 9mm size. 8mm, 10mm, no 9. Okay, stroll on down to Lowe's. No 9mm allen wrenches. Seriously? That's a mighty big store with an awful lot of merchandise to not have such a simple tool. One of their kits had the 9mm but I was in no mood to buy a 15-wrench set to get one size. They had a 9mm hex socket, but that is too long for my application.
Stroll over to O'Reilly's Auto Parts. Nothing. Not even in a kit. Sears is further away and I didn't feel like driving over there to check out the selection. Their website didn't even list one, although they show a number of hex keys of unspecified size for some reason.
Back at home I found what I was looking for on Amazon for about $5. I ordered it and it showed up a couple days later.
What is going on? Why do these giant national retail chains that claim to sell tools not stock a single 9mm allen wrench? What is so unusual about that size (other than it's for a Rover) that makes it so damned hard to find?
