transfer case chain was clacking away ...while driving to replace the case at a stop lost d,3,2 gears ..only worked in 1st then manually shifted ...had output speed sensor fault..replced t case with a used sensor ...now no gear indicator on dash no sport/manual mode lighting up ..and feels like its in 3rd gear at all times i can be doing 50 and drop into 1st with no reaction..and after shut down no drive have to rev it and it jumps into gear ..:banghead: :banghead: ..so where do i start ..have gearbox fault on dash and code p1775...HELP !!!

Just today, I ran into a situation where the transfer case controller had lost its magic smoke!

Check the round plug alongside the transmission housing. I had it "appear" to be plugged in, but wasn't. After cleaning it out and plugging it in, my transmission magically worked.

The transmission control connector is to the rear and up behind the shifter. Visible from behind.

As for the smoke, this was the first time I'd seen that and I've been fixing P38s for a LONG, LONG time! It's love/hate for me when P38s are concerned.

found this also......................NOTE: The loss of drive in positions "D", "D3" or "D2" failure symptoms suggest that the first speed freewheel has failed. This can occur if "D" is engaged while the car is rolling backwards causing overload of the freewheel and subsequent failure. Transfer box chain slip can also cause this fault by providing shock loads to the transmission. In positions "D", "D3" & "D2" the freewheel holds the torque when accelerating from rest. In position "D1"the freewheel is supported by engagement of a clutch (to provide engine braking). This will "lock" the freewheel even if it has failed, allowing the car to pull away normally.

CAUTION: Oil levels must be checked COLD with engine running. Refer to TIBs 44/01/99/NAS and 44/01/98/NAS as well as Service Alert SA0015GI-15 for additional guidance.

5. Fault reference #3: If loss of drive in positions "D", "D3" or D2" is determined but the vehicle drives when in "D1" or when reverse gears engaged, perform the following:

^ On electronic transmissions the stall speed monitoring fault code should be recorded in the fault memory (P0722, Bosch, 27 GEMS).

^ The oil may look clean and smell normal with this fault.

^ Check oil level and record results on ATER.

6. If the fault is still present after checking/correction of oil level AND the fault occurs every time acceleration from rest is attempted, replace transmission and flush oil cooler lines....

that is how most ZF 4HP22 transmissions fail."A" clutch is next in line. the 4HP24 has a bigger sprag clutch in it for that reason. you may be screwed. will it not move at all in D from a stop?
