My ?96 Disco with 171K mi isn?t turning over... no clicks? nothing. Battery checked out ok. The starter was replaced with a remanufactured Bosch about 3 years ago and I put about 25K miles on the car since then. Over the past several weeks the starter sounded weak as it started the truck. Could it be the starter? Any other potential causes?

Check/clean the battery connections first. How did the battery 'test'? Simply volts? Or rather a 'load' test for amps? Marginal batteries can still show 12+ volts but be totally shot and unable to crank. Do the instrument lights on the binnacle still light? These things have a finite cut-off point: at 9.2 volts most everything still lights up and works. At 9.1 volts, nothing does, as I learned one time as far from asphalt as I could get in SE VA....

Make sure you have a series 34 battery not a series 24. Most auto parts have it listed as a series 24 and these do not work for long. Causes slow starting , battery drain , and sluggishness.

Took my starter to have it test and it turns out that it was bad. This was a remanufactured Bosch starter installed 3 years ago and I put 25K miles on the truck since that installation. Can't believe the short lifespan on this piece of crap! This time I'm going with the Ultima brand they sell at Kragen with a Lifetime Warranty.
