is there a discoweb for buick riverias? i need a wiring diagram manual for a 91' riv. my wife's grandpa took his to some quicky lube place for a saftey and emmsions check and they destroyed the headlight switch, punched it clear into the dash and broke it. these are NLA and i have not been able to find a new one anywhere. got a used one from ebay and he took it to the dealership to have it installed and now the headlights work but thats it. no tail lights or high beams. they told him he needs a new switch and washed their hands of him.
So now I need to trace some wires and trouble shoot it and i need an schematic manual to do that. Any ideas D-web?

I know they are a pain to read, but a Haynes manual might help out a bit. They are better for American cars than they are for the things many of us own.

Still, they are a pain to get through.

kennith, i already have every realevant haynes and chilton manual on hold for me at the library, it will take a couple of days at least for them to reach my local branch for pickup. the only problem is there is not a specific one for the riviera. they may be of some help. we'll see.

There is a chance the switch is worth more than the car. Might be a total loss.
that chance would be a 100% chance. the only referance i could find to this switch has them listed at $450-$600. and there is no one that actually has one to sell even if I would pay this price.

Discoweb has always been the first place to turn to for info. from wiskey to cigars to washing machines to buicks.

i am hoping its something easy like a fuse. perhaps this is a sign that its time for grandpa to stop driving.

Or maybe just get a new car. If I had to drive a '91 Buick I would shoot myself.

Tell him to get a Toyota Camry. Old people love those things, they are big, bland, and floaty to drive. Just like grandpa likes 'em.

Some of those old cars came with some seriously Knight Rider options. This Buick, as an example, could be bought with a totally rad CRT touch screen. It worth buying the car just to screw around with it.

Cheers,

my 84 buick regal that i drove in high school for example had a super high tech electronicly variable carburator that allowed it to achive previously unheard of 16 mpg with almost no power. but it did have electric "wing" vents in the back seat that were almost worthless.

this one does not have the touch screen, although it does have the " twighlight sentinal" which is basically a fancy name for auto headlights. you can adjust the sensitivity of it so they come on when there is more/less sunlight left in the day. pretty cool. and the electric soft closing truck lid was pretty advanced for its day.

I'm trying to figure out why this is anyone's problem but Jiffy Lube's. I know you don't want those nimrods screwing around with the car any more, but they should pay to have it fixed properly. Over the years, I have fixed many quick lube fuck-ups, including a long block because some nitwit forgot to tighten the drainplug.

The lube place didn't tighten the drainplug in my daugher's Kia, the stealership raped them for over $7,000 and they paid. I was ROFLMAO when I saw what they charged them.

This happened to a buddy of mine with his Forester, and it NEARLY happened with my Disco the only time I took it there... it wasn't about to fall out, but it wasn't torqued enough to actually keep the oil all inside, and I wound up with a big huge puddle under my truck... fuck the J-L.

you guys are preaching to the choir here. no one has worked on my rover but me, and I have a P38. I am just trying to help an extended family member with what may be a simple fix.
