I’m working on a 4.0 6 cylinder in a LR3. I’m always surprised when I open the hood and see that little rascal in there.
Now that I need to fix one I realize how little we all know about this engine. There’s all kinds of conflicting info out there, and confusion about the actual variant this is.
The research I’ve done says this variant is not an interference engine. So the timing chain issue I have should not have damaged any valves.
I’m going into this thing today.

I opened this thing up. Front chain failed. I’m getting conflicting info on this thing being a free spin engine or not. It’s a Ford Ranger engine. Anybody know about that thing? I’m finding info that says there are 2 variants of this thing. One being an interference engine, the other is not.
Either way I’m going to take the cam out of that bank and do a cylinder leak down on that bank. If nothings bent I’m putting it back together with a $18 part and some gaskets.

The SOHC V6, which is the one in the LR3 and used since the late 90s is an interference motor. The older OHV version is not.

I was told recently that the V6 LR3s are bringing more money than the 4.4 V8 models. You guys think that’s true? I would be surprised if that was the case

Wouldn’t believe whoever told you that. There is absolutely no benefit to the V6 over the 4.4 and you’re limiting yourself to the lowest spec

It’s a shame nobody has come up with a good way to drop the 4.2 supercharger onto the 4.4. Have seen one person swap in a whole S/C 4.2 into an LR3 recently

Was it a relatively smooth process?

Seems like that would be pretty simple by modern engine swap standards...

Don’t know all the details but a shop in Georgia did it. They did have to pull body off frame so not exactly simple
