Chris - is it a photo of your truck in British edition of LRM (on Black Bear Pass)?

... anyhow, back from 1700 km in 5 days in Provence. Will post some French Defender port later on.
Hopefully, will have enough time tomorrow to pack up the truck.

Have to say, I envy Euro diesels. A Mercedes Viano 8-passenger van with 6-8 people, in mountainous terrain, 8-9 liters/100 km. A tank lasts for 10 hours of driving (to Disco's typical 4), and it pulls like a mofo.

Earlier this week, it was looking like it was going to be a rainy weekend with highs in the 60's. Now it looks like the rain chances are diminishing but it's going to be cooler. I'm hoping for a dry days on Saturday and Sunday because that's when we're most likely to be in the shit, driving-wise. ;)

I'm hitting the road tomorrow morning. If any of y'all are hams and want to say hello to the group, hop on the Sinbad Desert ARC repeater system with Echolink or IRLP during the daytime/early evening and call NW5W. Starting Tuesday, I'll try to monitor the system in case of emergency.

¡Órale, vatos!

... SPRING STORM TO BRING BIG WEATHER CHANGES MID TO LATE WEEK... A LONG DURATION SPRING STORM WILL ARRIVE WEDNESDAY AND LAST INTO THE COMING WEEKEND. AHEAD OF THIS STORM... INCREASING SOUTHERLY WINDS WILL SUPPORT RECORD WARMTH TOMORROW WITH MOST VALLEYS REACHING 80 DEGREES. WEDNESDAY WILL BE AN ACTIVE DAY AS THE FIRST COLD FRONT SWEEPS ACROSS THE STATE FROM SOUTHWEST TO NORTHEAST. MOST LOCATIONS WILL BE QUITE GUSTY ESPECIALLY IN THE AFTERNOON. SHOWERS WITH EMBEDDED THUNDERSTORMS ARE FORECAST TO DEVELOP. THESE STORMS HAVE THE POTENTIAL FOR EVEN STRONGER LOCALLY DAMAGING WINDS. SHOWERS WILL PERSIST AT TIMES WEDNESDAY NIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY ACROSS THE REGION. EXPECT SOME SNOW TO MIX IN FOR THE HIGHER VALLEYS STARTING THURSDAY... AND MOST OTHER VALLEYS STARTING THURSDAY NIGHT OR FRIDAY. THE WARM GROUND AND AFTERNOON TEMPERATURES ALONG WITH HIGH APRIL SUN ANGLE WILL ACT AGAINST MUCH ACCUMULATION IN THE VALLEYS... ALTHOUGH HIGHER SNOW RATES MAY OCCUR AT TIMES LEAVING SHORT LIVED ACCUMULATIONS AND POTENTIAL IMPACTS. MOST MOUNTAIN LOCATIONS CAN EXPECT TO SEE A HALF FOOT TO FOOT OF SNOW DURING THIS PERIOD. THE COLD TEMPERATURES WILL ALSO AFFECT THOSE WITH AGRICULTURAL INTERESTS... ESPECIALLY AS THE GROWING SEASON BEGINS ACROSS THE NORTHERN UTAH VALLEYS AND SAN RAFAEL SWELL. OVERNIGHT LOWS MAY NEAR FREEZING WITH A HARD FREEZE POSSIBLE FOR OUTLYING LOCATIONS LATER IN THE WEEKEND AND INTO NEXT WEEK. THOSE WITH OUTDOOR OR TRAVEL PLANS FROM MID TO LATE WEEK SHOULD KEEP AN EYE ON THE WEATHER FORECAST AS THE STORM APPROACHES THE AREA.

this is just a regional forecast for the state but it looks like it could be a wild and varried weather weekend.

have fun guys, i will be watching you on APRS.

Has anybody heard from these guys? I have been watching on APRS and Chris' truck hasn't moved in two days. I've also made some CQ's with no luck.

i havent looked since he was stopped overnight on the tenth i think it was. it looks like the abajo repeater is working. i dont know if Ben is transmitting on APRS, but the only other APRS vehicle near the last reported position is a guy from Kingman AZ.
For whatever it's worth, it looks like the truck was running at the last position report.

Gotta track my way back to M'Hat - see if Blue fixes me up with some free burgers. Sleeping in the vehicle must be outlawed.

Hey Peter, Steve and I are actually at the Olde Bridge Grille right now having a beer and sandwiches. We are camping on top of Schnebly Hill Road tonight just south of Flagstaff. Are you pushing straight thru to SDiego tonight? If you want to join us you are more than welcome.
