I'm running a stock front bumper so my front recovery options are limited. This has been simmering for a while but I've always got by with a solid rear shackle. A more solid front bumper is in the works, but I can't get it together before April.

Also, I'm running stock diffs. My vote would be to avoid making this a rock garden winch-fest.

Is your front bumper trimmed? If so, Jate rings may be an option.

IIRC I sold the front bumper from my DII for like $400... Then built a steel winch bumper ;)

Your broken off axle flange haunts me - that is, I'd love to be able to see if it doesn't happen to my truck, but it would be hard to see.

It's a one-in-a-million break. We weren't even wheeling hard, just driving along on a packed sand road. I noticed a little seepage before the trip on the hub but ignored it, figuring that I had a bad hub seal. It probably started with the bad weld and slowly cracked over time.

Like Ben said, it wasn't too fun to see--it meant the end of our trip. It was an expensive and lengthy recovery.

I'm stock diffs and axles. Going in soon to my local independent Rover mechanic to have the shuttle valve and a bad ABS sensor replaced so my stock 2 traction control will be functional. Will go through the whole truck with the mechanic to make sure it's all well sorted. Good front recovery points and a Superwinch 9500. Will have sliders installed but will still have the stock rear bumper...I doubt I'll get around to buying a rear bumper or having my local fab shop make a bumper before April. Rear recovery is hitch-mounted shackle receiver.

I'm fine with some technical stuff but spending hours trying to get 10 trucks past a series of obstacles starts to suck real quick. Unless that spot up on top of the mesa is really really cool.....LOL

Will the narrow (regular style) JATE rings work for him? I have an extra set that I bought for my D90 but they didn't fit; I needed the wide style.

Kevin, if we can figure something out for your truck, that will be good. It's not going to be a krawler fest. Most of the roads are just dirt and gravel. There are small rocks that you'll need to climb over. My real concern is our run down the canyon. Quicksand is possible and we'd need a way to pull you through. There's also a tamarisk-covered cut bank that will probably require a winch-up for most and we'll something to pull you up by.

If you can get something together, it would help. If not, we'll put a truck behind you. Most of the sections are out-and-back; you can always park your truck and ride with someone for the day.

Agreed. Because we are going to have 10 trucks - we'll avoid these spots.

I'm locked front and rear with axles/ cv's etc.

My oil cooler lines were pissing all over the place so I had them rebuilt with industrial megatech 3000 hose. These bastards are stout! I'm going to take the rest of the trans pipes in to have them built with the same material.

It's a group trip of friends and if something is too nasty for us to do together, we'll skip it. For things like the mesa camp, we can always send a scouting party to see if it's worth consolidating down to the built trucks to camp there for the evening. :)

Ummm... I don't recall if they'll work. He may need the wider/ cutout ones and I believe the stock bumper hangs down too low. I believe they are the same width but the "wider" ones are slotted on the inside.

Can I get everyone to PM me and Chris a valid email address so we can discuss details off line?

I have looked at jate rings numerous times but I have never got a straight answer on which ones fit the front of the D2. Also, they've been sold out or back ordered for months at all the usual places. I'll see what I can do before this trip.

I PMd my email address as requested.

I'm in the same boat than Kevin, No lockers, or front recovery points yet, I'm working on modeling a bumper, and hopefully I got it ready for the Trip, but no Lockers or gears, right now

Well as fate would have it I had a little incident yesterday that involved the front of my disco getting intimate with a snowbank. Time to break out the sawzall and "fix" this bumper. Shouldn't have a problem with recovery once I get half of this thing removed.

Just order yourself up a bumper and buy some beer. I'll help you install it. Better yet, we will go down to Kyle and Eric's place and watch them install it while you and I drink beer.:D

Awesome, Kevin.

We should be good to go so long as Geri comes up with some recovery points.

I wonder what this El Ni?o year will bring us for April weather. Here's hoping for 70 degrees and sunny. :bigok:
