In a way, it's really stupid for me to sell this vehicle. But because of the fact that it is now a weekender, not my daily driver, I've decided that I'd rather have a Land Rover Series 109" as my weekender -- Something I've always wanted to do.

This is a 1997 Land Rover Discovery XD, one of only 250 made and delivered to the NA market. It has a bit of history with it, being featured in several mags early on in it's life, and known as a show truck for the Phoenix Gold stereo components company. It's had a hard life, but it has been cared for.

The trailer is a VentureCraft Trailblazer tent top camper. It sleeps two, has a small changing room, lots of storage, is ultra light weight, and it has the potential to be modified to your liking.

Here is a list of the upgrades to the Rover:

1. 4.6L J.E. Engineering Ported, Polished, Blueprinted and Balanced V-8i
2. Safety Devices Low Profile roof rack that has been modified with a walkable expanded steel floor, 4 jerry can holders, axe & shovel brackets, & Hi-Lift jack bracket.
3. ARB front winch bumper.
4. Safari Gard Rear bumper with wrap around side protection and integrated hitch reciever
5. Front steering guard
6. Rear slider integrated with the rear bumper
7. Front and Rear Safari Gard diff guards
8. Detroit TrueTrac LS Diff in the front
9. ARB Locker in the rear and wired to stock Land Rover switch in dash
10. ARB compressor under the hood with external hook-up for air and wired to stock Land Rover switch in dash
11. Rear access ladder
12. Safari Gard steering linkage guard
13. SuperWinch S9
14. Dual Battery set-up (needs new second battery)
15. NRP Stainless Steel Exhaust
16. Safari Gard sliders
17. System Voltage display installed in dash
18. 4 x PIAA Rally spot lights mounted to roof rack and switched with a stock Land Rover switch in the dash
19. 2 x PIAA 8" Hi/Lo high intensity professional driving lamps, stock switch in dash
20. 2 x PIAA high intensity fog lamps
21. Cobra 75 WX CB
22. GPS Antenna
23. In-dash DVD player with 10 surround sound speakers by Alpine and Phoenix Gold with Aux input for Mp3 and 6 disc changer.
24. Acoustic matting applied to the entire floor of the vehicle
25. Safari Gard Stage III suspension with Fox 8-way adjustable nitro shocks in the front.
26. Old Man Emu Heavy Duty Springs and Shocks in the rear.
27. Rear Sway Bar Quick Disconnect (needs new bushings, I've removed the sway bar, and have never driven with it on for more than a year.)
28. Slotted/drilled brake discs
29. 235/85r16 BFG A/T's, they are about two years old with probably about 15k on them.
30. The trailer runs 245's, they probably have 2000 miles on them at most.

I think there are a few more minor things, but I can't remember them. The vehicle has no rust, but it does have trail rash/dents. The stereo head unit needs to be replaced since some meth-head busted out the window and ripped off the flip-up DVD screen -- the stereo still works, but you have to use the remote. I'll be trying to get a new one from eBay. The rear bumper should be repainted/coated. The front bumper will last for another few years before that is needed. The industrial coating on the bumpers and roof rack (they were all stripped and coated by the previous owner) is very good, but it is loosing it's deep black, fading.

I'd really like to sell these as a package deal. Not only do I need the money to fund the 109", but they are really a matching set, and I'd like to get it out of my garage!

I've got lots and lots of photos, and I can take many detailed images if you want. I have all the paperwork on this vehicle since new.

$9500.00 (Flame away)

I'm not going to be disappointed if it doesn't sell. It's just that I've decided that the spot this vehicle takes up needs to be filled by the One Life Live It mentality. There's just nothing like a Series.

Ben,

I found your XD and that trailer for sale online, called and looks like it was sold to you!

Anyways, did you get the XD for the $4,444 and the trailer for $888 as advertised? Just curious to see if those where the real prices or a typo.

And just like our political heroes can't give a straight answer...

I almost didn't take the trailer, but I'm glad I did. Keith was basically giving the stuff away! I was quite literally in a race to get there before anyone else. When I called on the truck it was the very first item listed on the Portland Craig's List -- I was the 3rd person to call! But I was the first person to his house. I had bought his RRC the year before, from his son -- which is one reason he was giving the stuff away -- his son kept putting large dents in their cars. The XD has a major blow on the passenger door and roof line, almost destroyed the SD rack -- from off-roading into a tree.

A friend of his son's also opened up the transfer case and put it back together without putting any oil back in it... I had to put an LT230 in it shortly after buying it.

Anyway, he knew he was giving the stuff away, he knew what it was worth, but had his reasons. He's not the type of guy who needs the money, if you know what I mean. The numbers were chosen because they are considered lucky numbers in Chinese lore.

So did you pay $5332 for it?

For as much as you use DWEB as your therapist couch, don't you think you should cut it some slack and not try and make such a mark-up, beyond the fact that it's had nothing but problems since you got it and from eye witness accounts it's a massive piece of shit with a yellow paint job?

Uh, I don't get what you mean by the straight answer. Do you mean I didn't actually list the price I bought it for in my reply? No, I didn't list the price, instead I told the whole story about how I got it, and I answered the question about the price when I said:

The numbers were chosen because they are considered lucky numbers in Chinese lore.

I don't know why he chose that price, other than to say they were lucky numbers.

So... I'm sure you would have passed it up because you're a liberal. And I'm sure you are just livid at all the house flippers out there who have done pretty good in the real estate market in the last 10 years.

I asked Keith what he thought it was really worth, he knew he was giving it away, and I don't mean that as just a turn of phrase -- but I don't have the luxury of being able to be benevolent in that way. I was lucky.

As for the condition. I don't know, I think it's fairly good -- a great deal better than a lot of Discos I see on here. You'd just have to judge for yourself, everyone is comfortable with different things. If you want a perfect truck -- this is not it. If you want one that is set up for long distance, protected, off-road travel -- this is it.

Problems:
  1. I asked about and replaced the fuel pump last year. I wasn't aware that a bad fuel pump made a car a piece of junk.
  2. I have been asking about bushing issues in the steering linkage -- fixed.
  3. The last problem I posted about was bad gas, both of those posts were from the same half tank of gas that my dad got at some discount station. Any test driver can check to see that the problem is fixed.
  4. The cooling fans do work, as well as the A/C. I think I asked about them a while back, but there never was a problem, they never didn't work -- nothing was broken.
  5. The temp "issues" I was having were only my overactive brain. I didn't realize, and no one on this board did either, since no one ever said anything about it when I asked, that the thermostat was a 190 degree thermostat, so a water temp of 200 degrees is perfectly normal. Never was a problem.
  6. I have fixed the driver's window that I asked about a while back. Fixed.
  7. I will fix, before anyone buys it, or I will credit them the cost, the shock bushings.
  8. The check engine light seems to be the product of the ECU not fully understanding the difference between the 4.6 and the 4.0 -- I would be willing to let a buyer ask an independent mechanic about it, one who has worked on this truck when it was not mine. I will pay to have it fixed if he actually finds a problem with the check engine codes -- He told me he didn't feel like testing it again on the computer, he had done it several times with the previous owner, and could not find a reason for why the code were popping off.
  9. There is a bulb out in one of the spots on the roof.
  10. The turn signals are fast, like there is a fault, because they put the rear bumper on, but it doesn't have the lower signal lights, so the car always thinks there is a bulb out. This can be fixed by jumping the wires on the dead-end harnesses, or you can get a new relay that slows it down.
  11. The door on the DVD changer is sort of broken, it closes and opens, but it pops off it's track. It is not a motorized door, it's just the plastic dust cover.
  12. The passenger window switch in the center console sort-of sticks up too far.
  13. The passenger door lock sometimes will not unlock on the first try with the remote, it always locks though.
  14. The rear door lock has been fixed.
  15. One of the interior lights acted like it was going bad, but I scrubbed some of the corrosion off the contacts and it is now fixed.
  16. The front passenger door doesn't do that "pop" thing when you pull the handle to open it, so even though it opens, unsuspecting persons can't always tell.
  17. I think the delay wiper relay is slowly getting bad. Every 20th wipe or so, the wipers will freeze for about 2-3 seconds, then continue like normal. I don't feel like fixing it.
  18. The transmission oil cooler lines leak.
  19. The PS low pressure line leaks at the tank.
  20. I think there may be some valve noise on the passenger side, you can hear it with a stethescope, but I also think this is fairly normal for a 90k mile motor.
  21. There are some cracks around the screw holes in the front grill where it is screwed into the truck body just under the hood -- not visible from outside.
  22. The switch for the extra set of Hi/Low driving lights is just a normal 3-way switch -- it isn't a Land Rover factory switch -- and it is installed next to the power mirror switch.
  23. I plan on putting the original Land Rover Special Vehicles stickers back on the truck -- taken off by the previous owner.
  24. One of the vacuum tubes, the 6" "L" shaped one that goes to the plenum chamber on the passenger side was cracked, I replaced it at great expense.
  25. The plenum chamber itself was painted AA Yellow by the previous owner, it is faded now.
  26. The steering wheel is slightly off center when driving straight, this is a result of the lift, it's normal, but I think it can be fixed if the new owner wants it to be adjusted.
  27. The Land Rover plug that goes into the trailer hitch is missing.
  28. The speedometer seems to be about 6% fast.
  29. There is a 6" piece of the black molded trim on the rain gutter at the back driver's side corner, next to the cargo door, that is missing.
  30. I got the transfer case from this shady character called "Will Tillery" not sure if you know him. It has an outrageous 85k miles on it now, but it will almost certainly explode the moment the new owner drives the truck away, because this "Tillery" guy never sells anything of any value. (Disclaimer: this is called sarcasm.) It was bad, now it's fixed.
  31. I'm sure I, or the eye witnesses, can ad to this list later.

I took a pretty good hit on the last truck I bought and sold. I was, I believe, as honest as is possible about it's condition to Bri, you can PM him and ask if you want. I sold it to him for about 55% of the money I put into buying and servicing it while only being able to put about 500 miles on it. And I intend to show every single little thing to whomever asks about this truck. If the price is too high, the market will let me know. But the fact is, it's my truck. I can do with it as I want, so unless you are making an offer -- why do you care? I don't care, like I stated above, if it doesn't sell, I'm keeping it, and I'll drive it for years to come. In the mean time, everyone knows it's for sale.

If the various eye-witnesses who have seen it would, could you make a list of what is wrong with it -- post it on this thread. Just do so honestly.

The truck is: $7500.00
The trailer is: $2000.00
Total: $9500.00

Dude, give the guy a break... are you jealous he bought it at a fire sale price? Its honorable of you to look out for wouldbe buyers lurking... but perhaps the truck is worth more than he bought it for... nothing wrong with that at all.

With that said, that side window full of yellow stickers looks tacky... deduct a couple thousand off for those IMO. :)

You're right calling you a capitalist was wrong. You are more of a sleazy used car sales man.

Houses typically go up in value, where as we all know Land Rovers don't. Your house flipping analogy was bullshit on those grounds.

That wasn't a fire sale that was fair market for how molested that truck is. If it were toatally clean with all the original XD Decals and no issues your price would be fair.

Sell it on ebay or craigslist and ask what you want from it, but don't come trying to profit from the community you belong to. Would you pull this shit at your church? Hasn't this community helped you keep all your rovers on the road at one time or another?

Chump.

I guess the $10-$15 decals do make the difference.

I hadn't realized you had inspected the truck, I thought you were in Utah or someplace. However, you do have the, "eye witness accounts," that I'm sure will post here at any moment.

If the price is too high, it will play out in the long run, with or without your input. What it is worth is what it is worth, not what someone else gave it to me for. Anyone who comes to see it, or asks, will get the full run-down on exactly what I know about the truck. They can decide from that point what they want to offer for it. I'll make sure to list the good and the bad in any email, and I will put as much photos in it as they want, and I'll take photos of any part of the truck they want to see.

I don't know what selling a car has to do with charity. I take care of my giving to charity in other ways. Why is this so personal to you anyway? Where you one of the 15 or 20 people who called the previous owner in the first hour it was posted on Craig's List? I just happened to be the first one who got to his house, that's why I got to buy it.

In a month or so, if it is not sold, I'll decide if I want to sell it bad enough to lower the price. I think that is a pretty normal way of going about things.

Who's the real chump montanabluuur?
You sad because you didn't get a good deal?
Guess what, I got a 93 LWB for $500; am I a "sleazy used car sales man" if I sell it for more?

I'd say for that truck, with the matching trailer, that ain't a bad price.

What a laundry list of issues you've had with this truck. When you have a disco with that many problems at that age, its typically going to continue that way until it dies completely. It sure sounds like a piece of shit.

You are asking way - way too much for such a molested issue prone truck.

Which problems do you think are normal for an 11 year old truck, which are issues that a prospective buyer may have a problem with? The list is right there, go through it.

To be fair, there was a guy who got banned from Dweb for trying to sell a winch for fair market value when he bought it for far far less than market value. I don't agree with Montanablur that selling something for more than you paid is wrong, if you can you may as well, but shouldn't the rules be the same for everybody on the forum no matter if they're one of the mod's least favorite people or Oregon's most troubled teachers. Just saying....

that's why you don't tell people how much you got something for, especially on the internet. just say you got a "really good deal" and leave them wondering

If it were really worth the money he is asking wouldent

$8888 for the truck

$444 for the trailer have been a better price and still lucky?

someone would have to be a idiot to pay $9500 for this conbination, and sorry guys all the issues on this truck that have been all over this board make it all fair game.

If this was a 'full disclosure' sale wouldent post #6 'Problems' have been included in post #1?

I am all for making a profit if there is one to be made but come on this price is just stupid and isnt even close. A D1 for over 7k needs to be something REALLY special this is far from that. The extra 'XD money' dosent even apply here because its not really even a XD anymore.

like I have said before this isnt ebay its a community BB for sale section and things posted will be reviewed by the community, only a handful of deals has ever gone bad here because people get great deals because very few people have ever gotten away with price gouging. When someone shows up and trys to slip one past someone always speaks up and i feel thats a great thing...let them go find that deep money on ebay.
