I found an Eco Challenge D1 at my local junk yard. They just got it in this a.m. and don't know if it have 1 or 2 lockers. I am not finding the link I had at one point in time, and am unable to find specifics. They will sell me the whole front axle for a song, but I need to know if it has a locker (I have a rear one already) Please let me know what you know, you know?

Here's a Photosynth of the Car

How can you tell it's a fake? There were 250 that came to BC for the "Eco Challenge" in Cananda, that's not that far north of here.SO odd's are pretty good it's legit.
here's one that looks like the one I found.

Granted the one I found didn't have a snorkle or hole cut where a snorkle was.

Why do you think it's a fake? Just wondering. Also I did some looking into the XD models and found that the few that were produced did indeed come with a locker. Not sure if it was on both ends or not though.

If I can get one more locker I'll throw the third member up front and run it. My front pinion is leaky anyways this would be a great reason to upgrade.

Dude. Buy the rack and resell it.

Knock his ass down to 250. You can do it. Tell him it's just an old factory POS that everyone seems to have nowadays. Complain about rust, if you have to. If he asks why you want it, just tell him someone in your club (Discoweb) wanted a used one a while back, and you figured you'd pick it up for him. ;)

If he just won't bite, offer a package price with a few more parts you can turn a profit on for a few hundred more. Tear that thing apart and get all the good shit if you have to buy more.

Cruise Ebay to see what's pulling cash, and wear him down with parts to score the rack for 250 or less.

Damn, man. Fuck the axles. Make a few bucks and let some of it pay for itself.

Cheers,

Kennith

I agree with Kennith. Give the yard owner a list of all the goodies that you can resell at a profit or need for your truck.
It'll be interesting to see if there are any lockers on that truck. Even if it's the rear axle only,....... buy it and rip the 3rd off it and fit it to your front axle. (just make sure that the ratios are right and that it's a 24 spline:))

Thanks for the replies, the rack is beat the fuck up (bent on almost all of the top rails, severely) only one tail light cover, no sliders If this was a Camel Trophy truck I'd nab it (the whole thing is for sale right now, $2800.) but the price is really high, the yard guy even said he priced it high intentionally because he wants parts off it too.
The Eco-Challenge is more of an Iron man thing than a Camel-trophy thing (Off Road people race vs off road truck race) so the fact that it's an Eco challenge support rig really doesn't do anything for me. I think this car was a "wussy wagon" used to pick up contestants when they needed rescue or couldn't hang any more.
From the sounds of it lockers on this rig are a "possibility" but not likely. There are a few interior trim parts and pieces (and those lights on the roof rack, panel switches for said lights) I'd like to take but I certainly don't want to deal with a parts rig in my driveway. why would I when I could just drive 15 min North and pull what I need?
AT Any rate I'll keep you all posted on the yard guys test results (He said he was going to drive it over a pile and through "the mud hole out back"
what ever that means.. :(

Go back to Jeeps with that attitude. You'll learn just how badly you need that parts rig soon enough.
You musta missed the part about leaving it in their yard that is less than 15 minutes away from my house so I don't need to have them in my yard when theirs is so close (and cheap), LOL.

I already have enough junk in my yard :p

So far I have an extra set of axles (front and rear, $100.) and a Power steering pump ($40). Beyond that I feel like I'm set for things that are likely to take a shit on me when I'm out wheeling.

I suppose Windows might be a concern but then again I am not planning on running the tight and twisty trails any more.

If I am constantly breaking shit I will apply my "Jeep" attitude...by removing all the Land Rover drive train and replacing it with 60's ,an atlas and a 5.0. But if I did that I'd be right back where I was...

I'm suspicious it's a fake because it has roof rails. I don't think the Eco's or XDs had roof rails so they could fit the low rack.

Even if it were a real eco challenge model it is till nothing more than a paint job and some bolt on stuff.

And who wants a bright yellow car anyway?

Right on, yeah thats the conclusion I came to as well..now I can't wait to hear the sales pitch I get from the yard guy when I go back. He said if it doesn't sell as a complete rig it goes into the yard. I'll head back next Saturday, That's my plan for next weekend!
