1995 RRC door latches

When the latches are in the up position,they dont seem to be firmly in place.They will drop about 3/8" and then you cant get out unless you hold the latch up while opening the door.I know this is minor in the scheme of things,but i could use any pointers that anyone has. I have removed inner panel and plastic to see what's going on,but everthings in place just too loose..thanks for any help

Sounds like you have the dreaded weak coil spring condition.

broken spring in the latch. you'll have to remove the window frame and take the latch out. you can buy just the springs online somewhere or buy the whole assembly. extremely common problem for all RRC's and D1s
