Just did the conversion yesterday. Following the UK site directions, the install was a piece of cake. Took less than 2 hours of actual time. BTW, most of the work was done by my 16yo. Nice to see the CDL locked on the dash!

Well done. It's a fun project, and you get that bonus dash light when you're through ...

This is my next mod - where did you get the 04 CDL? I have been trying to locate the correct placard for sometime also. Mine is an 01 with an April 00 build date so I am pretty sure I have the nipple.

What instructions from what UK sight?

Pretty sure? Crawl under and make sure. There have been a few people here that were unpleasantly surprised to find out their t-case was replaced under warranty with one that didn't have the CDL.

The '04 shifter is much easier than doing the D1 shifter install.
Good luck.

Your t-box should be ok with all the parts there. Your best bet for finding a shifter is from a junkyard. Just be sure to tell the junkyard that you need the shifter, the cable AND the little arm that attaches the cable to your t-box. The one that the dealer shows in the parts catalog is incorrect. If you get a shifter from a 2004 you can also just remove the little solenoid that will come in the hanlde. You won't need it and it gets in the way trying to install it.

The only way to get that little arm is either buy the entire cable from the dealer and it will come with it or make one yourself.

Cutting the wires on the SLABS ECU isn't a big deal either.

As for the website, search google and you should find it. Don't have the link handy but its from a private Disco owner in the UK. Very good color photos and detailed instructions.

We found ours from a fellow dwebber. We did not have the time or patience to search around for parts from a junk yard. Paid less than 1/2 you can get new. A simple install for sure and like SDD said, kind of fun. But follow Slappy's advice; the one we bought was from someone else that found out their transfer case was replaced with an '03. Felt bad for him.

Here is the link:

What a difference the CDL makes! We were able to find places to stick it (like climbing over a fallen tree) and locking the CD allowed her to crawl easily on over. By the way, anyone know a good source for a cheap passenger side mirror? The pin striping gods decided we did not need it any longer.

I got my '04 linkage from RoverLandParts, and they actually have one in stock right now. Here's a pic of what was shipped to me.

edit: I don't think you can get the '04 placard by itself. I'll probably replace the center console at some point and just swap in one from an '04 for the "complete" install.

I got one out of an 04 in the u pull it for 20 bucks! I got the sticker too. I am glad I thought about the sticker... it looks cool.

I was blessed by the rover gods, but quickly smote by the rover gods with a driveline chirp. The money saved in one project is quickly consumed by another...

The laws of roverdynamics are hard at work.
