Did a search and found some recent write-ups on installing 04 CDL in pre 04 DIIs. However, a couple of people mentioned having to fab a couple of parts and I was hoping some pics of these parts. I have not torn into it yet, that will be this weekend's project. But I feeling pretty pumped after scoring the linkage for $75 from a boneyard;)

My home is where my Disco is
You need the transfer box spigot, Without it (kinda nipple close to output shaft) you'll have nothing to bolt your linkage to, and therefore the cdl won't work. Discos up to 2001 MY had the nipple, after that MY they did not.

Check it down here
http://www.clublandrovertt.org/modules.php?name=coppermine&file=thumbnails&album=10

copy and paste that in your browser. There's a photo of the nipple/spigot available there. If yours has it, it's a matter of getting the actuator there.

Good luck!

I don't think they have anymore. I found mine by going to car-parts.com and searching for an 04 transfer case. I figured if they have a case, they probably got the linkage. I got lucky with the first place I called in Idaho. I'm replacing my under the vehicle CDL lever.

Did you get the little lever that gets bolted down to the nipple that the cable attaches too? I got a used one like that and it was hell to finally get that piece. LR doesn't even have a part # for it. Great deal by the way!! Congrats! And if you have everything you don't need to fab anything. You will just have to trim a little from the plate that gets rivited back down to the tranny tunnel. You have to do this because the lever will now need room to go side to side as well and forward and aft.

Cheers,

Mike

Thanks. I'm thinking that I didn't get that part. I really need a pic or a part number, but if there is no part number, then thats a problem. The guys at the junkyard pulled the linkage per my request, as it was still in the vehicle when I called. They were very friendly and easy to work with. I believe if I could properly describe the part, that they would go ahead and send it to me. Without seeing it, I'm wondering if they thought it was part of the tranfer case. Any ideas on how to find a picture of it? Then I could fax or email to the salvage company so that they would know exactly what I'm talking about.

That is exactly what happened to me. They claimed it was part of the transfer case. I can see that it you were removing from an '04 to install to an '04 but I told them what I was doing and that I expected the entire thing. It took some doing but I ended up with it. In the meantime I contacted Ashcroft Transmissions in the UK and they just sent me one for free from the UK to the US no questions asked. They are awsome folks there. Anyway here is a picture and if you have problems and cannot get them to give it to you. I will give you my spare. Just remember the heartache that went into getting this thing LOL. I took the picture by the soda can to demonstrate the size of the part.

Lemme know,

Mike

Thank you very much. Because I have a CDL handle now, I have an after market part that is shaped like that. I have not called the salvage yard yet. And since I have not started tearing the center console apart, I don't know if my part will work. The shapes are very simular. If all else fails, I may have to take you up on your offer.:patriot:

Hey guys, i don't know if you have seen these but this is what i have in my 01 DII, it is brilliant and as a bonus feature you can diable your Traction control Hill decent and ABS, by engaging the CDL then turning the ignition off and then restarting the car, to re-enable you disengage the CDL turn ignition off and restart car:victory:

Let me know ASAP. Since I posted that picture someone else contacted me and asked for the part. I told him that I had made the offer to you and that he would have to wait until I heard back. So as soon as you have determined one way or the other I will in turn let him know.

Cheers,

Mike

That is the best looking electrically actuated CDL mechanism I have seen to date. I like the worm gear approach. We have not seen these in the States yet. What is the cost of that kit?
